I have been wondering lately , mostly because I want to buy something thats £500 which to me is a
big purchase , but so many seem to " drop " that much on an item of clothing without batting an
eye lid . Its not like I cant afford the item but to me its something to be considered rather than
just jumping in .

Am I getting old or something , just thinking out aloud really and interested in what yous lot think ...

I don't think many people on here spend £500 on one item. Although a lot talk about spending £500 on one item. Laughing out loud

I procrastinate all purchases for days, sometimes weeks (depends on how big I deem the purchase to be), it doesn't matter what the price is. It's not that I can't afford it, I don't really know why tbh. I find if I can't stop thinking about something for days that means I need it in my life Smiling but this means I sometimes miss out on exclusives.

I would need to justify to myself that spending £500 on one thing was ok, except for a work suit.

I usually think "how much can I resell it for?" if it's something expensive. And if I think it's something I could move on I'll buy it. Never spent £500 on any item of clothing yet though.

What did you get guffer? I can't imagine spending that much on one item any time soon.

i'm with robii on this one, especially for stuff i've not tried on. if i know i can resell for a similar price then i can easily convince myself there is no risk. never spent £500 on one item mind.

normally spend quite a few days umming and arring over a costly purchase though. never impulsed on anything over £100. even when shopping and sales, always know what i'm there to buy, tend go back to the shop if i've seen something i want. this strategy tends to result in heartbreak more than often though. especially in sale season. stupid really.

I never think about a resale value. I don't ever expect to sale anything, unless it no longer fits or I grow to hate it.
I'd have no beef spending that kinda dough on a leather, a suit or a coat as noble said.
I really want something, and I can afford it, I buy it, luckily I'm young and have a fair bit of spare cash, which helps.

It seems like a lot of people buy stuff, with the intention to then resell it on a few weeks later after they've got bored with it, which seems a bit weird.

My most expensive single buy was my dior clawmarks for £280, and I don't regret it one bit, I love them, will never sell them unless I got too fat (aint gonna happen).
My only purchase that i feel like a bit of a mug was my d-point belt, which was 150, its way too expensive really for a belt, but im still glad ive got it.

I too try to justify purchases, " bla bla will last for a lifetime" Laughing out loud

If I find myself procrastinating over a purchase I tend to not buy it, except in the case of Jeans where getting an exact fit is critical - pretty much all purchases are an impulse of some description and its generally the smaller pick ups I regret the most(if at all) only as they could been combined for a bigger purchase.

The thinking being that if I don't want something enough to buy it there and then I can't want/need it that much.

I tend to ponder over "big" purchases for a few days now.
I used to buy impulsively, only to realise a few days later I didn't like the item as much as I thought I did.

Why haven't you bought a GJ yet? I thought you were skint and needed to sell some things no?

Agree with Noble, depends on what item of clothing it is. I tend to work out how much wear I would get out of it. If it's a bag, jacket or a suit then I would, as long as I could see myself enjoying it for some time and nowadays I try to get find items for the best deal, and often in the process end up changing my mind, whereas I've bought countless items (of any value) to regret the purchase only a few days/weeks later.

Saying that I have my eye on a Marni suit that's over a grand - going to check up on it when the sales kick off.
