Who's feeling it?

I started commuting by bike about 3 months ago and I'm loving it - free, green, wicked exercise, quicker than a bus and good fun too. Totally converted.

I want to get a new bike at some point, anyone get any tips? Any fans of single-speeds?

That F85 at £600 is a great price. Would there be a considerable difference between 58cm and 60cm frames? or is it just a case of heightening the seat post a bit and maybe a longer stem?

Its probably always best to get the right size for your measurements even if your standover height is fine the reach might stress your back etc. Look up a bike for calculator

Put my height and inside leg into the Felt bike calculator online and it says I should go for a 58 or 60

trends change all the time..... im 6'4" so having one "my size" feels too much of a boat. imo better to go a size down so you can throw it about better and its a bit lighter.

all depends what youre doing on it though. touring the globe get one that is big. commuting and 50miles on the weekend get one that doesnt feel like youre constantly doing the pole-volt.

ps... if you go "size down" it does stretch your back a little bit more

still hyper inflated prices but the best kit

Assos FTW

Craft stuff is my favorite as it is fairly cheap and very durable.

Get down your local bike shop and test some out, went to mine yesterday and there is loads to try from. Stupid as it sounds they'll prob look at you (no homo) and be able to reccomend a good fit.

have you got padded shorts? much better than even the most comfortable saddle. Can wear under normal shorts etc (just dont wear boxers as well).

I recommend - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/dhb-aeron-cycling-short/ as the best value for money shorts

stays in position better I would imagine though ive never had a problem with non bib shorts. Going for a slash is a bit easier in non-bib shorts

quick google says that non-bib shorts dig into your waist more which i have noticed to be fair so i might get some bibs eventually

I would second this. I've got a rock hard saddle but with padded shorts it's fine.

Bib shorts are supposed to be better because they don't fall down, and protect your back from the cold - according to a guy in a triathlon shop I visited recently.

I hate the idea of bib shorts though, and have never had a problem with normal cycling shorts falling down, despite the guy trying to convince me otherwise Laughing out loud

Cheers mtthrvy.

I'm gonna get a Ribble 7005 I reckon, custom options look excellent and cater for my height well.

Currently using sportful tour bibs, was recommended that bibs are more comfy than shorts due to no tension in waist, esp if your running a bit of a kite and picked these because they were cheap and had the thickest padding. Sized up xl.

just went out on a ride got about 5 minutes down the road and cut through a cycle path and these two women walking two abreast with pushchairs didn't move even after I asked politely so I cut round them, exit the cycle path and *thunk* *thunk* etc. got a flat, had to do the walk of shame back Sad

bibs don't pull in round the waist, 1000% more comfortable than shorts. been using these for a while, wouldn't get shorts again.
