Who's feeling it?

I started commuting by bike about 3 months ago and I'm loving it - free, green, wicked exercise, quicker than a bus and good fun too. Totally converted.

I want to get a new bike at some point, anyone get any tips? Any fans of single-speeds?

Can anyone recommend any good winter cycling gloves? The only thing that screws me over during the winter is my fingers which go numb because of the cold. Anything that stops the chill would be great! Ideally, they would need to be padded and good grip. Normally I'd just go out and buy some but would be nice to hear some recommendation. They'd be for off road use.

how cold are you talking? when your toes and fingers start going numb, that's usually the indicator that you're losing heat from other areas of your body such as your head and chest. without good coverage there, your body will reduce the blood flow to your extremeties.
for temperatures close to or a little below 0 F a pair of choppers gets me by fine. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047VOV9Y/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001KWYG8O&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=17AC3GR9MADPA95MCXB3)
but they can be cumbersome if you're riding with gears and brakes.. more incentive to go fixed eh
arcteryx alpha sv glove looks pretty fantastic in terms of dexterity and warmth, but quite pricey.
pearlizumi lobster gloves with hi-loft insullation are good down into the teens.

Just seen this, cheers mate. Will be anything from -3 to +5 (c) really. It doesn't get that cold down here, but I never even though that it could have been other areas of my body that could be cold. Those arcteryx ones look incredible but as you said, very pricey!

Beautiful that Jesus. And there was me thinking everyone on here was 'roadies' Eye-wink

A rock bounced up and smashed my mech hanger off on Sunday. Bent my rear derailleur & snapped chain Sad
Just got back form teh shop. The total damage with parts and labour; £147. All thanks to one lousy rock.

Wish I picked a less expensive hobby now Laughing out loud

carbon blur is amazing.. do you know how much you've spent? or have you not totalled it up?

what's the reverb dropper like? would you recommend it?

i reckon the rrp of it all would top £10k

ive been quite savvy in the buying of bits though, probably still spent more than £4k - ill tot it up when its built

the reverb is good, its up and down more than a whores knickers, seems a good purchase so far

Snapped the rear axle bolt on my bike the other day, it's from a 5-speed, 20 year old raleigh pursuit, 700c wheel. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? Or what I should be asking for my local bike shop...

my yeti dj is in one half-finished piece now, had a quick test and its rapid! will get a pic tomorrow

Excuse the crab hand, I was trying to hold the bolt together (it's snapped).

your local bike shop should have replacements, just bring the old one in, they're only cheap.

but... although the snapped one will have come out easily you'll need the right size cone spanner to fit the to refit the new axle and you might also need to put in new ball bearings (if any have fallen out and got lost) and grease.... will be easiest to pay the shop to fit it for you i reckon.
