For anything work related... a thread to answer questions about employment.

- Seek advice and ask about work or post information about potential job opportunities that you think might be of interest to other Fukers.
- For work dilemmas and queries or just general chatter.

There's always a great deal of talk spread across threads regarding employment and work - (Universities, Teaching English).
What with many of you being workers: use your knowledge to field those questions and help each other out.

What are some shit hot team working examples that I could use/elaborate upon to build a stronger argument for being a team player?

help me out FUK

What was your last job EDW? Just say something along the lines of how you were set up into a team to implement or evaluate something related to it and that you managed to finish it before schedule. You could even say you were chosen from a number of people because your boss thought your skills were suited well to working in a team.

No sports teams for me Timmbo, never been interested in that aspect of uni, perhaps on reflection i should have got involved in something like that for this sole purpose.

Thanks for that idea tical, Its for a commercial/quantity surveying position within a national oil and gas supply company. I have relevant experience working for a main building contractor so I think it will be a case of revisiting my experience there and trying to work out some good examples I could use.

Anyone got any advice been trying to get into a digital design agency for almost a year and still had no luck. Had the usual internships here and there but still no joy. I know to a certain extent of the usual Coding stuff HTML, CSS and currently learning HTML5.

EDW, don't know if they want just plain examples or actual stories, but maybe just make up some answers to the usual competency questions about team work, like a time when you had a team member who was a cunt, or when someone disagreed with you etc.

Don't go for advertised positions, initiate contact with the creative director and ask to go in on a placement. They'll pay basic, if you're lucky, but it's a good chance to get in there. Then, after 2,3,4 weeks, or however long they keep you on for, do another. Before you know it you've got 3/4 shit hot digi agencies on your cv and will look 1000000000x more employable.

I've been doing that as welli got so far two decent placements in my belt. Also into the process of rebuilding my site in HTML5 and CSS3. Long bloody process. Im ideally looking for designer/ developer roles in a entry level position but everyone seems to expect you have to be mid-senior level when you get into the company. Cry

Sorry to be a noob when it comes to cover letter do you keep it formal or depends where you applying?

Tailor the cover letter/CV to the place you're applying. If it's a creative digital agency specialising in Social Media, tailor it like a Twitter feed etc...

PM me a link to your 'folio and i'll take a look. See if I can offer any more help Smiling

I sometimes think employers live on another planet.

why would you want someone who all they've done is study for individual exams through school and 3-4 years of uni? team sports are an easy thing to fall back on but in the absence of any decent teamwork to speak of it's something

i agree it's lazy though

I have no problem with team sports being used as an example of team work it's just the 'Rugby Old Boys Network' thing which pisses me off. No other sport has the same effect on employers.

You will probably need to study professional exams such as CIM Diploma after uni if you want to progress. Employers often advertise looking specifically for CIM.

Get some other skills such as HTML and Photoshop - it's all digital these days.
