Well I have to put it in a letter, big section that says if you feel your company messed up your payments through no fault of your own they may be liable to pay it. |

Well I have to put it in a letter, big section that says if you feel your company messed up your payments through no fault of your own they may be liable to pay it. Surely this will just apply
If you owe less than £3,000 you will usually be able to pay back the amount through your tax code. If you owe £3,000 or more different arrangements apply. Follow the link below to find out more. |

I'm a recruitment manager for a big pharma. Do your phd, even if you decide you want to leave pharma phd will look good to big 4/bank. Will pay for itself |

Well yeah but would rather not pay it back if I can prove that whoever was paying the PAYE messed up somewhere along the line. |

Has anyone in hear successfully changed careers before? I currently work for a retail interior fit-out company but want to move into a buying role for a furniture company. The most relevant experience in all the jobs I'm looking at is a proven track record of sales which I just haven't got. Any advice from anyone who's jumped similar hurdles? |

highly likely im going self employed ltd company route, my old employer has around 5/6 days per month for me at a great day rate, and I already have another 10+ days lined up with another company at the same great day rate (unrelated to my current employer) Maybe can get an occasional odd job every once and a while on top. Will this be enough to dodge a IR35 type trap? |

I'd have thought so. The IR35 legislation is to stop individuals working for one company pretty much all the time. You'd be doing work for (at least) two unrelated companies. Check the guidelines here, but it seems that you pass on several of the criteria. |

You generally do a phd to do R&D in a tiny ultra specialised area, absolute best case you get to work in the specialist area commercially and get very well paid to do R&D, next best case is general R&D in a commercial area similar to the PhD and get well paid, worst is going into academia which is generally low paid until you have done your time. The main problem with a PhD is it is a very long time of your 20's working alone, when all your contemporaries are already in business climbing the ladder earning decent money (more than you). Sponsorship can help but being poor and being a student until you are 26 is not cool with everyone. I didn't start my career until 27/28 due to this but I was lucky and got a R&D job which leapfrogged a normal linear pay scale + I got total control of the R&D and so forth. Obviously a sponsored PhD would fast track a career, but there maybe significant tie ins to earn that funding. |

With big 4 your first degree is all you need to get in. With bank, unless it's a quantitative phd, same rules apply. Only do a phd if it's what you want to do, it won't add much value outside of the chosen specialisation of your research. |

Hello World - It's a pass cool, my pal is a chartered FD and can sort everything out, but he hasn't worked for a few years due to a windfall so was a bit out of touch on IR35, so wanted a quick 2nd opinion. |
