This thread is dedicated to the little things in life that piss you off and you want to have a moan about, actually, maybe it's just me, but hey ho.

As I have already mentioned this week:

Girls that pay for a single white wine at a bar with their card...why? go around the corner and get some cash you lazy fucking cnut, you're not the fucking queen.

also

Why do girls insist on putting their makeup on on the tube? And why do they give me a dirty look when I can't helping looking at them, it's not becuase I fancy them, it's becuase I am wondering why they didnt get up a few minutes earlier and do it in the privacy of their own sodding bathroom. how would they feel if I got my toe clippers out and started lobbing nails off in front of them?

Volume on TV adverts. why do they put them louder? I work in TV and still no one can answer this question for me.

right now, that's enough...

To be honest, my sentences there are all over the place in terms of can and can't. Sad Although I am not strictly 100% in the old brain box.

Pardon?

HW, what he struggles with is really understanding that his own unsubstantiated opinions aren't going to score him points. He does struggle with writing and reading, but on a course such as his, it's nigh on impossible to get by without doing some traditional research. I'm looking through 5 pages of an essay here without a single footnote.

From that sentence it seems like he's trying to write to an ideal of what a smart person writes like, rather than writing what he actually thinks.

He doesnt actually talk like that does he? Laughing out loud

No not at all, he's quite succinct in reals. It's exactly that, he throwing in words that he doesn't really understand because he feels he should as a student.

Just show him what a properly structured essay looks like complete, and the work required to do it.

Go through the entire process with him correcting errors as he makes them.

Concentrate on making him understand that his own opinions must always be based on the foundations of acceptable, referenced peer reviewed publications or authors.

If he still doesn't get it just explain its like a game to get the best marks using that method. Thats how it works.

Keep on telling him you don't love him until he gets better.

Thanks, he's back home next week so I'll spend a day with him doing the above. I'm not the best tutor really, as I always end up getting angry at him, which I know is out of order, but I'll keep calm and try and walk him through it.

To be fair, he's pretty good looking and stacked, so in the long run I'm sure he'll do fine.

When you are doing it, never take anything for granted, explain everything.

You have to remember that nearly every human construct is a process which has to be learned by the vast majority because they are unable to invent an acceptable solution from scratch.

He is attempting to write an essay in the best way he is capable of, its just his invention is poor in comparison in established methods in which his essay will be marked against, and you are aware of.

Good advice, thanks. I'll make my explanations a little more visual for him (flowcharts etc) so he can use them as easy reference.

No, it's definitely a lack of ability as well. His lack of effort doesn't help. He was too lazy to research his degree properly and now a borderline dyslexic is stuck on a film theory course.
