Never SEEN a ghost but had some very strange noises (sounded like a music box) in my bedroom. I can post the full details if nobody minds reading an essay (I emailed a friend about it at the time and still have the emails)

These emails do make me seem slightly unhinged but I'll survive the jokes at my expense Smiling

27/03/04

I was just sitting here in bed and this music started playing. It sounded like it was coming from my computer speakers which are on the floor near the tv but they're not plugged in

Then I thought it was coming from my computer but I was confused because it was so loud and the volume isn't even on

It was louder than the tv and sounded like music box music. As soon as I got up to try and find out where it was coming from, it stopped

There's no way it could be coming from anything else in the room as there's nothing else in here!

30/03/04

I just heard another very distinct but slightly muffled sound. Same sort of way it sounded like it came from a kids toy. Fuzzy sounding. I know these sounds are not in my head or coming from the tv. They are louder than the tv. this one was like a victory horn. Like on scooby doo: "d d d d d deeeeeeee, puppy power". as soon as i looked in the direction of the sound (the corner of the room, left of the tv) it stopped. I am laying on the end of my bed watching tv so i'm not asleep or anything. The advert on tv was for quick fit and the sound was louder than the voiceover

But there's nothing in hear to make the noises. I am not imagining this. I am not scared i just want to get to the bottom of it

I am starting to wonder about the family who lived hear before because I have got some odd letters come through. 1) to Mr Bonshor saying he needs to renew his hackney carriage license and one to Amy Stockwell, a p45 for a job she left in December. You'd have thought these people would have informed their employees of their new addresses especially as they left in September

This is so frustrating because unless you are here to hear the sounds you can't understand and it's probably hard for you to believe me and there's nothing you can say to explain away the sounds. And i can't explain them either

But now that's 3 things I have heard. Doors closing/opening and now these two different sounds. You can explain away the doors, it's a terraced house, but there's no way to explain away the music box sound and this new sound

30/03/04

More sounds today but only lasted about 1 second this time so I couldn't tell what it sounded like

I don't think you'd be able to find a priest to exorcise anything these days but if it carries on I will think about that...I think I'll try talking to it first though...I don't want to turn into no god botherer

I tried to get into the loft but I don't have a ladder or a torch. When I tried to climb up I heard a hiss but it might have come from the tv this time, I can't tell. I think that one was my imagination

01/04/04

Music box type music playing twice today

First time only for a second. This time I was standing right next to the TV and it stopped as soon as I looked at the TV. Second time it stopped then started again and lasted about 5 seconds. Quieter than before

I tried to talk to it but got no response

I have attended seances in the past (I used to take part in some studies with the Society for Psychical Research) and have made contact through seances and using a Ouija board with something that gave an intelligent response to questions.

Initially it scared the hell out of me but after 4 years of study I remain unconvinced in the presence of ghosts or spirits.

It is still a fascinating area of study and for anyone interested in the area I can recommend the SPR as a source of scientific study into this as well as other unexplained phenomenon.

thanks

Iain

i noticed that people i know who say they've seen ghosts, are the same people who always but in when you're talking about something, just to let you know that they did it too (usually better, bigger, faster, earlier, with more fun and money and danger etc... etc...).

I have, sounds a bit gay but it still shits me up everytime I think about it, it was quite honestly the most scary thing thats ever happened!

Sorry if I'm going to write an essay but I'm bored and trying to kill a bit of time!

I was in my bed, you know when you're in that stage where you are just about to fall asleep and I hear my door handle click. It wasn't a proper click as in when you open the door, but as in putting pressure on the handle until its half way down and letting go really quickly so that it springs back up.

So I turn around thinking that it may be my dog (who sometimes opens the doors) or my brother (who used to sleepwalk quite often) but its this little woman who is about 5ft tall and hunched over walking towards me as if she is about to touch me. It was weird, I always thought that I ghost might be see through, but this was an opaque figure, like a real person but you couldn't pick out details of their face or anything.

Anyway, I literally screamed for my life, I'm not ashamed to say that I truely shit myself! And as I screamed my dad came running into my room, and as I did the figure ran towards the door and as soon as my dad opened it she disappeared that very second. The only way I can explain it was like what happens in blade when sunlight goes on the vampire and all the parts of the body split in different directions like little molecules.

Sorry for the long winded story! and before anyone says "yeah but you were dreaming" thats bullshit, I was wide awake when it happened because I was bricking it, and I would have loved to have it explained like that so I wouldn't worry about it! It turned out that my dad had also seen something similar when he was going to bed once but didn't want to say anything for fear of the rest of us being scared.

That settles it, they must be real then.

To be honest one night I was sure i saw a ghost, turned out to be my coat hanging on the door, but had me going for a while.

- I wont see a ghost anyway, when i was younger (true story btw )I stood up in my room and told them they didnt have permision to appear(kinda assumed they were like vampires in this sense), so i am safe Smiling

There is a state of awareness in this transition between waking and dreaming called "lucid dreaming" which is the cause of many reports of this type of scenario. The reports vary in detail but follow a surprisingly familiar thread involving a menacing old female presence, earning it a more common description of "night hag syndrome". Have a Google on these terms if you want to read up on them.

What I find most interesting about this is that the experience is consistent across different cultures and is a worldwide phenomenon. Does this mean it is rooted in some sort of collective subconcious, is a genetic memory inherited from our ancient ancestors or could it be that this creature really does exist and is only in our fields of perception in this transitional state of conciousness?

One common sensation that is evident in most cases is a feeling on incredible malice eminating from the hag - was this an aspect you recall?

thanks

Iain

I can understand the logic that ghosts may exist. One of the basic laws of thermodynamics is that energy can be converted from one form to another, but cannot be created nor destroyed. As all of our thoughts, feelings and movement is merely a product of electrical energy, it seems this could indeed apply to us and our personalities.

Does this apply to animals as well? Insects? Plants? Viruses?

These all use electrical energy as part of being alive so should, in theory, be able to survive death in similar way.

Imagine an afterlife where all the ants you squished as a kid come back to get their revenge.... nasty.

Just food for thought Smiling

thanks

ryss, give the drugs a rest.

some of my earliest memories are of weird happenings such as neon confetti pouring out of lightbulbs and dancing around me, etc, etc. turns out, when i was wee i was put on pain medication for poorly ears (what?) and a couple of weeks into the course, the quack realised the stuff was making me hallucinate.

so, never seen a ghost and until i do, not a believer.

We've been living in our house for over 20 years and things happen sporadically.

I've sat with my parents and watched an ornament slide from one side of the shelf to the other, it wasn't crooked because they tested it with a spirit level.

And see stuff but never straight on especially on the hall stairs and in the dining room.

I have heard of the phenomena of lucid dreaming and believe this to be a contributory factor to many accounts of seeing ghosts etc.

I've suffered from Sleep Paralysis for the last year and a half and it's horrible. Like being on a bad trip in a dark room. The room bends and twists and just out of my eye line I feel there's something evil or malevolent. The trouble is even though I know now what the problem is it's so real! Anyone else had this?
