I have a 2 day long interview beginning tomorrow. Tomorrow consists of visiting operational sites in the afternoon and dining with management/executives in the evening. The dress code has been stated to be 'smart-casual (no ripped jeans or trainers)'.
This is followed by sleeping over and then a full day of interviews on Friday in 'business dress', which is simple enough.
So what exactly is 'smart-casual'? I don't want to be underdressed nor overdressed. Although it states ripped jeans aren't allowed, i'm not even going to risk wearing plain jeans.
I'm thinking a pale lilac knit over a white shirt (no tie) with black trousers and a pair of black lace up Derby's. Would this be alright?
Cheers.

Well yeah both obvious, I meant for the look in general. Obviously the wearer modifies.

what's the job? different industries have different standards for what counts as smart.
my cousin works for morgan stanley and their 'dress-down' fridays are fucking hilarious.
I've worked for investment firms since I graduated and dress down days at my last place were quality. Salmon pink chords, tan loafers, with a bright green v-neck and lemon cravat being a particular highlight. Standard fund manager uniform is checked shirt, chinos and boating shoes. Proving that money can't buy you style.
The place I'm at now is permanent dress down all the time so it's not quite as bad. Although I'm wearing a suit right now - for the first time in about a month!

I would have to disagree ( no argumento ) I always wear something to stand out from the crowd and always got the job , Im not saying anything garish just something a bit different so that they remember you

I have managed to wangle a visit to a hospitality suite at OT for Sunday's game against Villa.
None of our customers are attending, it's just me, a supervisor and the logistics manager, who has put on the bottom of his email "dress code: smart casual please"
Reckon some smart raw denim would be ok for this, bearing in mind we aren't entertaining customers?
I really can't face going to the footy looking like a member of the prawn sandwich brigade.

Gonna bump this thread, got an graduate assessment centre over two days, with the first night involving dinner and drinks with the mangers/recruitment folks. Asking for smart casual evening wear.
Was thinking brogues and chinos, and a shirt (tucked/untucked?) Or should I wear dress trousers/shoes and a shirt.
