After a cheapish suit for work. I dont need to wear a tie however.

I only have 2 suits at teh moment a dkny and a boss. The boss is a nice cut but its too big for me now and its not very durable it gets manky at the slightest thing.

Reason i need a new suit is that i have been hitting the gym hard recently after going single. Result is that i have lost a stone in weight and it really shoes with the other suits. What i would like is a more fitted suit

Was thinking Next or Marks for a decent suit for not much dough. Dont particulary want to spend more than 200 quid.

I am in Edinburgh by the way.

Any help appreciated

Thanks for the responses, having to wear a suit pretty much every other day at work now. Would ideally like to spend £600-700 on a decent sale suit but it's probably going to be wise to spend less and get two. Toying with the idea of buying a couple off the shelf a touch big and have a tailor see to them.

It must fit on the shoulders off the peg. Tailors can fix other things more easily than the shoulders.

Hey all,

Looking to buy a new plain black suit which can double for business and also nights out. Origninally posted here;http://www.fuk.co.uk/threads/new_plain_black_suit_suggestions but might have more luck in this thread (if a mod could delete).

I've been looking at:

http://www.mrporter.com/product/302934
http://www.mrporter.com/product/311962

To me I prefer the material (silk blend) on the D&G but I think the Gucci jacket has a nicer cut (wider lapels).

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

I prefer the D&G, the Gucci one seems too much like something you'd wear to a funeral.

Looking for some advice from someone who knows about Tailoring. I've had a couple of (really) cheap suits made in the last year, but looking to invest in something a little smarter for some events this summer that will last a good few years.

Does anyone know anything about cloth? Would appreciate if someone can anyone recommend a lightweight super soft cloth - one place I emailed recommended Zenga super 100s, however I don't really have a clue about it and would like to know if it is worth spending the extra to go for a Zenga/Loro Piana cloth over the unbranded ones? A lot of the places I've spoken too are trying to get me to go unbranded, as even though they are cheaper they obviously make a higher margin on these.

Tried on a Tom Ford suit today also, was beautiful - but unfortunately not willing to drop £2.5k on a suit just yet - especially when I can get a decent bespoke made out here for a quarter of that.

I guess not too many off here are into their tailoring unless its a job interview or a wedding Smiling

Went in today to be measured up and ended up going with the a really soft lightweight Zenga fabric - was approx £365 for the jacket and £150 extra for the trousers which I don't need yet, so didn't cop. Two fittings next week and should have the finished article in a week or two. Will post pics here when it's finished.

Having done a lot of research into these fabrics this in the past few days I read that J.Crew also use nice Loro Piana cloth for their suits (and yet are still reasonably priced for RTW). They also buy all their Cashmere from the LP mill in Italy too - and charge 80% less...

think you'd be better off asking the fellas in men's clothing over on styleforum about fabrics

Went to suit supply today off saville row. Perfect service, got fitted out in an hour.

Decent modern fits, and I wasn't pushed towards buying a more expensive suit, just what ever was the best fit.

Suits are great value for money as is the tailoring alteration prices.

Pick mine up next friday, its for a wedding so plenty of pictures to follow.

Basically this:

went for 38S.

If I could afford it I'd wear Savile Row nearly every day

I was rushed for time or I would have gone for the measurement service from them but it takes nearly 10 weeks.

I really struggle with suits as I am basically a box with long arms.

I looked at spencer hart but you are looking at £700 - £900 for off the peg rather than £299 - £499 from suit supply.

I bought a suit from Next last year for £250. It fits so bad. Sleeves are half an inch too long, shoulders have some extreme padding to make me look like a don and the trousers don't show off my socks at all. I love it.

Next suits are so bad, don't know how they get any love on here. +J were the best budget ones by far. Bought 3 and ruined 2, by unnecessary tapering.

And another thing, those Our Legacy Rolling blazers which are very well made, have funky shoulder padding aswel this season. Csb

the shoulders on OL blazers fit a bit... pointy imo. not as rounded as I'd like.

I emailed Suit Supply about the same suit the other day, and apparently the trousers are a 32 leg and can't be let down. Not sure if they stock long leg in store?

Shirts look good on that site...never heard of suit supply before, are they worth the money?

Is it ok to wear red brick or vibram soles with a suit?

Decided to wear one of my +J suits to work. The trousers were tapered to a 6.5" hem do they look wrong or am i just being paranoid? Excuse the filthy mirror.

I'd have them taken up a little so there's no break. they don't look wrong though. What was the hem before tapering? I'm certain mine are about a 6.5 anyway??
