After a cheapish suit for work. I dont need to wear a tie however.

I only have 2 suits at teh moment a dkny and a boss. The boss is a nice cut but its too big for me now and its not very durable it gets manky at the slightest thing.

Reason i need a new suit is that i have been hitting the gym hard recently after going single. Result is that i have lost a stone in weight and it really shoes with the other suits. What i would like is a more fitted suit

Was thinking Next or Marks for a decent suit for not much dough. Dont particulary want to spend more than 200 quid.

I am in Edinburgh by the way.

Any help appreciated

I'm in need of a suit for a few weddings i have to attend over the summer, i was looking at spending between 3-4 on one and had narrowed it down to Reiss (or J Crew if i can find one in the sale) is the quality that bad for Reiss? as it only needs to see me through a few wears.

Reiss isn't as bad as a lot of people make out - quality of material is decent, and they can pin it up during the fitting and do alterations fairly quickly and cheaply so you can get the fit absolutely bang on - they just aren't hard wearing, which doesn't sound like an issue for you if you are gonna wear it less than 10 times.

Zara do some nice suits, can get a really nice one for £180 tops, then spend £50 or so on alterations if need be and it'll look boss.

This grey wool and mohair mix suit is nice if you're looking for a summer colour: http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-S2012/189528/630737/GREY%2BCLASSIC%2BFIT%2BBLAZER

Zara look great on the super skinny type and not the short getting oh so slightly rounder type like me Smiling I find they feel a bit 'cheap' though both in terms of construction and materials.

I've also heard the 'Savile Row Inspired' line at M&S is very decent for the money too, if not a little bland.

The quality of the materials on the new Savile Row Inspired is very good (and I think all British). Be aware though that they are M&S' mid-range and only half canvas. The top end is £500 and fully canvassed I think.

Have tried on those M&S blazers and it fitted me very nicely, no tailoring or adjustment needed. Definitely worth a look.

My previous suit was the top end M&S davile row inspired and the jacket fit was very good, trousers to wide at the hem but that is standard.

You tried TM Lewin? Probably the best construction on the high street, may want to take up some alterations (normally trousers need to be tapered, but that depends on your size), but considering the price is lower than Reiss, it's worth it.

bit of an urgent one, i have a suit which cost about a monkey which has an inch long rip on the arm sleeve (front and back). Tailor said he can send it to invisible menders but will cost 140 Evil to fix. It will look like it never happened, but it's a lot of dough for 2 1 inch tears. Or he said he can patch them, cheaper but the finish will be visible which is putting me off.

anyone had this type of repair done? How bad does the patch option look?

cheers

i had a similar size tear on the back of a suit jacket - had it patched and never wore it again. Looked well obvious.

TM Lewin have a sale on at the minute too, which makes them a good buy. They do need a fair amount of alteration (the back is quite roomy compared to the front for some reason, even on the 'slim fit' styles, but that can be sorted by a decent tailor, and the trousers will need tapering/hemming as mentioned), but the quality of materials and construction are good for the price.

Anyone had experience with Reiss's Made to Measure service? £550 for a suit seems pretty good value...

Yeah I used Reiss a couple of weeks ago. Their service was good and the alterations service came to £80. That was shortening and tapering the trousers, also shortening the blazer and tapering the back slightly. However, make sure you take your time when seeing how you want it fitted because when my trousers came back from their tailors, it came out longer that I asked it to be. Was told I would have to pay an extra £10, so I just went into a local one and got it shortened for £2.50.

How is the quality on the Reiss mtm? I'm looking to spend around £500 on a suit, not sure if I should just go for one of the numerous 300-400 services for now and wait until I can afford a proper bespoke later on (around 900-ish+ right?)
