If this happened in the UK we'd be dragged over hot coals!

It happens all the time though ie Turkey but nothing seems to be done. If something lesser happens here we're ripped to pieces.

I wont even start on the racisim thing!

You could see it as enlightened though: we are sterner judges of our own behaviour?

It's more than that "Professor". It's the punishment handed down. In Turkey they hold signs up saying "Welcome to Hell" when foreign teams visit, and get away with it. If we did similar things in the reverse situation it would be punished heavily.

forgive me, but that was sort of my point, because Britain is more tolerant, we are at the same time more protective, ie. punishing towards anti-social behaviour

We get highlighted because of our past reputation.
I'm sure it's worse in other countries currently, than it was here, at it's peak.

I think the fact that there has been a lot of english hooliganism abroad (world cups etc.) adds to the "bias"

We (as in the UK) invented concentration camps, raped and pillaged an empire, allowed Davina McCall to earn a living on TV ... so we, more than most, should be tolerant and forgiving, I feel.

But there you go. Aleready you are misinformed(im assuming by the media). England are nowhere near the worst country for hooliganism. Not even close in fact. Yet blatter hates English football. If this had happened in England they would be banned from european football. FACT.

If it wasn't for english football holliganism wouldnt be around in europe at all. FACT (Before anybody even bothers to look up wikipedia yes it did originate in South America, but it was in england that it became a weekly if not daily occurance)

I do agree that FIFA/UEFA go over board on UK teams on racism issues. The way the Italians and Spaniards are treated over this is a farce.

no. what i am saying is that hooligans in other countries spend more time fighting amongst themselves (holland, russia, italy, argentina). english hooligans fight abroad more regularly and so it is seized upon by europe as a whole IMO. nowhere did i say that blatter didn't hate england
also, if you read this report in the guardian

http://football.guardian.co.uk/continentalfootball/story/0,,2005154,00.html

(bottom paragraph). you will see that some people view the english handling of hooliganism as positive.

I spent about 12 years living in argentina during my younger years. Saw some pretty wild football riots.

It was so fucked that you'd get rolled for your shoes at the stadium by supporters of the same team.. where's the love?!

Italy and Spain get away massively with that kind of stuff, obviously particularly the cursory nods towards punishment that arise from racist abuse in the crowds. But, if the policeman had been killed in the UK, you're right, we'd all be in trouble - unless it was Liverpool in which case they'd probably get a champions league bye and a squad full of mbes on compassionate grounds
