does anyone else think the Olympics is a massive waste of money? Olympics is used as a tool for urban regeneration/construction of much needed infrastructure nowadays wouldnt call it a waste of money |

The estimated cost put forward seven years ago when the Games were won was £2.37bn In March the overall cost of the 2012 Olympics to the public purse had risen to around £11bn When major infrastructure projects are factored in it is estimated that the figure may be as high as £24bn This is all taking place amid a backdrop of massive welfare, housing benefit and legal aid cuts and spiralling unemployment Then you have the event sponsors - multi-national junk food/sweat shop/chemical companies, the ticketing fiasco, VIP 'games lanes,' all the dubious security companies involved with policing, the huge disruption it's going to cause to everyone who lives and works here etc etc edit:misread 'olympic torch' as olympics but points still stand |
