I'd recommend an IBM Thinkpad if it's reliability you want over something that looks flash. |

We use Sony Vaios at work and I find the 17" versions have great screens but they have a high failure rate after the first year - I'm returning 2 more today after one sceen died (4 weeks after replacing it already) and one had its hinges break under regular use. I think this is possibly an issue with the larger screens in general with laptops so wouldn't slate Sony over it. Definately buy the 3 year warranty on any 17" screen models. Other than that, they have been solid. thanks Iain |

Rockdirect for me. Just got an email from them...
In response to recent events and increased security checks at airports, we have temporarily extended the cover offered by rock notebook insurance to include theft of notebooks carried in aircraft holds. This will give peace of mind to customers who have the cover but who cannot carry their notebook in hand baggage due to recent security changes. If you have any queries or would like to add insurance to your rock notebook please call us on 08709 90 90 90. Our full range of performance notebooks are available to buy online at http://www.rockdirect.com. Our standard notebook cover excludes loss of laptops unless they are carried on the person (effectively as cabin baggage on aircraft). Therefore under the current increased security requirements for air travel, theft cover does not apply. However, we have agreed with our Underwriters that for all insured who travel from the time of the increased security up to Thursday 17th August, this requirement will be waived and subject to all other policy terms and conditions being met policy cover will apply. If you are flying please be sure to retain your boarding card portion as proof of the date of the flight. The extended cover only currently applies up to 17th August, if you are insured and flying after that date please contact us to find out whether an extension has been made. Kind regards, Would other laptop manufacturers offer the same thing? at no extra cost? On top of that all of their laptops come with a 3 year Collect and Return warranty. Just go for it, if you're not happy you can return it for a full refund, no questions asked. |
