Whats the last day of christmas posting? ie arriving before christmas.

And does this affect Special Next Day Delivery? when is the cut off for this

i was in the post office today and they told me last date for special delivery is thursday, but you can pay £2 extra and have them guaranteed for saturday which means the last (if you wanna pay more for the privvy) is friday (which would arrive saturday morning) but thats only for special delivery items.
