The only remake I can remember that was almost as good as the original was The Departed (from Infernal Affairs), which although was pretty much beat by beat the same story, was just impossible to not like with the acting talent in it.

that remake is shite compared to the original...can't remember a tagged on love triangle story in Infernal Affairs. Bullshit addition.

I also hope you are joking about Oldboy too. What a crock of shit that will be! When was the last time Spike Lee made anything worthwhile?

Oh yeah I prefer the original too but just saying the remake was one of the better remakes out there.

Spike lee - inside man? Thought that was pretty good. Just intrigued what lee will do with old boy. If josh brolin is still up for the main part, think he will be terrific.

Probably right, It has been in development for a while, i have to admit was kinda interested in seeing how will smith woulda handled it, not his kida material.

Can't have anyone fuck with Akira, one of my favourite films of yesteryear.

saw the dangerous method last night...
great direction from Cronenberg
good acting from Mortensen
Fassbender's acting ranged from meeh to decent imo
Keira Knightley's acting...lets just say she's a desperate Natalie Portman wannabe.Very annoying acting to me overall...

It's well worth it. If you like Fincher then you won't be be disappointed. Rooney Mara really is amazing in it, and Daniel Craig is a great fit for Blomkvist. Shame it'snot getting more recognition, I can't think of many recent high profile films that are even half as good.

Its not getting recognition because its a total copy of the original, even down to the set designs...

Hollywood should just leave well alone sometimes..

They did the same with 'Let The Right One In' which was remade and entitled 'Let Me In'....and wasnt a patch on the original.

I'd have to disagree. Of course it has it similarités, they're both drawing on and being faithful to the same source material (unlike Let Me In, which as you rightly pointed out totally butcherd Let The RIght One In, but was barely the same story).

If you've seen the remake, which I assume you have (?) then I think you're being a little harsh. The originals were good films in their own right, but not fantastic. They were originally made for TV and it shows. Just because it's a 'Hollywood remake' doesn't make it automatically shit despite popular opinion. In terms of style, pace, soundtrack (especially the soundtrack which is amazing) and performances I'd take the Fincher version any day. But that's just me.

Regarding Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...

I thought it was better than the original movie and moved at a better pace than the book too. The faults of the book carried over but it was so well made (as I would expect from Fincher and the cast) that I can excuse these issues. I'm not sure if someone who hasn't read\seen the original will be able to follow it though, there is quite a lot of content that isn't really needed for the main plot.

Hope they made the second and third book, which in my opinion were better than the original (once you get passed the horrible opening of book 2).

Cheers for this mate, been looking for a good quality version for a while after missing it at the cinema. Eager to give it a spin as I've heard good things.

subtitle complaints with some of the R5's - think it's only for one scene though.
