Seems that for whatever reason on here the levels of stupidity are rising. I fear for a great many fellow fukers and think that with help from each other we may help guide each other through life....
So you know those stupid questions you dare not ask for fear of looking foolish or maybe you have a situation that you feel the advice and experience of wiser people than you could prove invaluable, then post it here!
Maybe we can link the student thread directly to this one?

It's not really the web designers fault, most of the sites that don't work in IE are HTML5 compliant (or at least working towards it) but IE doesn't conform to the web standards that all browsers are supposed to.

OK, perhaps I should re-word that to "surely making something work across all browsers is part of being a good web designer?"
Hacks may be frowned upon but surely that would be better than a function not working? I'm sure ASOS aren't telling their web designers that it's OK that the site doesn't work properly in IE9 and they'd prefer that to using hacks
Absolutely, a website should work across all well used browsers, especially the latest versions. Personally I haven't had that many problems with IE9, it supports most things the same as firefox/Chrome in my experience... I normally just chuck in conditional style sheet for versions of IE you want to support. IE8 and 9 must, possibly 7 as well. Dont bother too much with IE6..
I guess it depends how many visitors you get to your site using various versions of IE. But its still a well used browser (although thankfully getting less and less popular )

You'd have to pay the contract off 'cos you agree for a specific period of time. In effect you've breached your contract with your provider so they're entitled to reimbursement for that breach. You pay the agreed amount to terminate the contract and 99 times out of 100 keep the handset.
Thanks B

In some instances, rather than buy out the contract,it might be worth seeing if they will lower the monthly cost of your contract (making the total cheaper than the buy-out) and then stick the SIM in a draw. Only issue is remembering to cancel at the end of the Contract.
Thanks V

I realise that IE doesn't conform to web standards, but it's a complete cop out excuse. Internet Explorer hasn't been standards compliant for many years, and designers know that, so they just have to accept it and work with it because IE is still up there with the most popular browsers

though I do think it's bad form on a designer's part, it's far worse form IMO on microsoft's part that they've made a browser which doesn't display web pages properly!

it's no worse that the Apple not handling flash, I'm sure MS have their "reasons", like Apple.
I've been using the Iron browser for a coupe fo weeks and it's pretty good.

Don't use IE9. Why go elsewhere when you've got firefox and chrome?

I went to a mate's sister's wedding about a month ago and they had one of those internet fund things for their honeymoon. I found the invite this morning and realised I forgot to put any money into it. Should I send them a card saying 'sorry I'm a disorganised wanker' with cash in it or a nice bottle of wine?

Have you checked the fund has finished and they've been on their honeymoon, yet?

Yeah they definitely have, not sure whether the fund has closed, although she has deleted me from Facebook, the ultimate 21st century snub.

Some girls do that dont they. They either delete their facebook account completely or delete non-family males from facebook as soon as they get married. Wtf?

I finish my work placement in a couple of weeks and don't start uni until 1st October, that give me a free 6 / 7 weeks. Wouldn't mind working abroad in a bar / club somewhere, has anybody done this? I think I might be a bit late on on the season no?
P.S anybody who owns or has mates who own a bar, feel free to give me a shout.

Continuing on the same theme, I find the idea of these lists of "things we want as wedding presents" pretty disgusting. I got them a lifetime supply of tinfoil instead of any of the shite they want from John Lewis.
