Seems that for whatever reason on here the levels of stupidity are rising. I fear for a great many fellow fukers and think that with help from each other we may help guide each other through life....

So you know those stupid questions you dare not ask for fear of looking foolish or maybe you have a situation that you feel the advice and experience of wiser people than you could prove invaluable, then post it here!

Maybe we can link the student thread directly to this one? Eye-wink

Other half's parents half given us some money towards the wedding, but they did the same for her brother, so don't know if it was tradition or just something they wanted to do anyway.

Always found it bizarre that people get married it a traditional manner, and do not just fuck off to Las Vegas. No guests, no presents, no hassle.

And I don't think people ask for wedding presents, it's just tradition, isn't it? On the whole, people don't ask for presents at Christmas, the acting of giving gifts has just become the done thing. I view wedding gifts in the same way.

That's a bloke's perspective though, isn't it? Weddings are for the women, biggest day of their lives.

I hate weddings cos I'm a right miserable bastard. Sitting at a table with people you don't know is my idea of hell.

You are right. I guess I just got lucky as my Mrs hates weddings. For us it was $99 job done, and we had a amazing holiday.

My gf says when we get married her dad will pay. Does this still go on? I thought it was just an archaic tradition. I wasnt happy with the idea and said no btw.

i wish

to be fair he was convinced that he was paying for it, but that has more to do with him being a crazy drunk with bipolar disorder

But you can do all that with a 80 quid certificate from the town hall.

I meant why do the church and all that stuff if you're not religious, it seems stupid pretending to believe in god so you can have a "nice day", baptisms are the same.

my mother goes to church and i'm an only child

fair bit of onus right there

all the people saying 'why not just do vegas'... well, the thing is your wedding isn't really your thing. well, it can be, but then your families will probably consider you selfish assholes for having a private or destination wedding.

hell we got a load of flak from the missus' lot for getting married in the uk even though it was my lot paying for the wedding.

basically do what the hell you like, but bear in mind weddings bring out the worst in people. you'll definitely come out the other side knowing who your friends are.

Didn't you get married to somebody because they wanted a UK passport?

its because it traditional. its removed from religion for a lot of people. much like christmas. not that hard to understand.

not sure how performing a religious ceremony, with a priest, in a church, is "removed from religion" but what do I know ?

the people getting married now are not doing it for religious reasons, for them its traditional. in the eyes of society marriage is not strictly religious which it is in your eyes. its a ceremony, a tradition, an event which people partake to show they are committed to each other, get the families together, whatever.

A high majority of people get married these days because they think that's what they have to do imo. Most of them are fucking idiots with no idea of tradition. Two weddings i know in the past 2 years took place due to them thinking getting married would save the relationship Laughing out loud both now divorced obviously. I'm in the Evers camp(no cunt).
