lost my sony ericsson w960i today on a bus its now turned off and there has been no reply to my pleas, im about 4 month through an 18 month o2 contract and have no insurance, also have been with 02 on previous contract for 18 month, what are my options? can i take out insurance and claim straight away? or would i be able to just cancel the direct debit on their asses and fuck them off. it pisses me off, if i ever found a phone or wallet i would make sure it got back to the owner, fucking scallies.

basically you can tell them what has happened get new sim with the number and then buy a new phone and carry on as you were. getting insurance and then claiming immediately is not going to fly.

or check your house insurance and find out a way of lying to enable you to claim.

but what about ppl who take out insurance and then genuinely lose their phone soon after, surely as soon as you take out insurance you are coverered and have the same rights as anyone else regardless of how long you have been insured?

if you lose it in public you generally need a crime number to make a claim, so you have to report it lost( eg stolen) to the police. You want to lie after taking insurance out?

Insurance companies are very thorough. Mine's with Lloyds because it is practically free. You only pay a £30 charge when a replacement is required. Make sure it's not been more than 14 days since the incident occured otherwise they won't do a thing.

As DDD aka Hello World said you need a lost property number from the police also the serial number of the phone that's gone missing which you can get from the operator. Then you must fill in a form detailing where it was lost or stolen. In addition to all this you need proof of purchase. If you don't keep your receipt you must again contact the phone company and get them to FAX it to the insurance people who don't accept emails.

http://www.o2.co.uk/services/insurance/faqs

well you cant buy 02 insurance as you need to buy it within 1 month of signing up, so you need a 3rd party insurance for the handset

such as

http://www.talkcover.co.uk/mobile-insurance-claim.asp

or any other insurance company. it will look sus if you take out 3rd party insurance and then days later it goes missing but thats up to you, you will have to lie to the police so thats your choice, also until you get insurance or make a claim you cant block your phone contract so they might go nuts and you will have to pay a massive phone / data bill, although its very likely they will just unlock it and use another sim.
