Lost passport Help please

I have a uk passport, bit i cant find it anywhere i think it may have been thrown out by accident. Does anyone know the process i have to go through to get another?

I know i have to fill in the relevant forms, but do i have to go to an interview or anything like that?
Or can it all just be done via mail?

Can be done via mail, need to get 1 or 2 people in respected professions to sign your photo's or the documents.. my sister just sent for one and it only took a week or 2..
