I presume it's because they are more powerfull and can cope with having lots of programs open at once. I'm a web designer...I use a PC (at home and at work) |

They're more "wanky" and thus more suited to "wanky design types", apparantly. |

have been reading a few forum topics...and have a a couple of questions... why are apple/macs better for design & graphic work? Depends on what are of design really. A lot of OSX sound programes and video editing software from Apple has become the industry standard. Photoshop runs fine on either platform, so isn't really a preference either way from a designers point of view. |

its all image, thats it. DJ's and "cool" people go for macs. Most real developers and techys use PC's. For what you want either will be fine. SO look at price vs looks and style. Oh yeah and before UB steps in, "more powerfull" ?? |

why are apple/macs better for design & graphic work? They aren't.. apart from having a 'better, more intuitive' User Interface in general that is.. this is purely opinion of course.
Do most web designers/developers use mac's? if so, why is this? Yes and no.. Apple had their 'foot in the door' first as a proper graphical publishing environment, so Macs still have a strong foothold in the industry for legacy reasons and due to companies already having invested heavily in software for that platform.. and design software doesn't come cheap ! To kit out one of our Macs - legally - with XPress, QPS client, Photoshop and Illustrator costs circa £2K. What you will find is that design/creative types mostly prefer Macs and coders/developers mostly prefer Windows.. that's a broad generalisation tho. I do both and have a PC and an iMac on my desk, two keyboards like Jean Michel Jarre lol Bottom line - either is good, but if the software you need is available on both platforms, I would go for the Mac. |
