What do you mean by odd crowd? Just your average pub crowd and BBC heads as far as i can see. Doesn't matter what other drinks price are if the beer you like is 2.49. It's the shit lager like Stella thats £4 then i'm glad that crowd steer clear. I imagine beer prices in the new BB are pretty steep.
I suppose i'm showing my age now though. Smiling

Joshua brooks is ok and next door does real ale for 1.99 a pint before 7 and only 2.49 after!!!! Thats the cheapest beer i know in Manchester and it's good stuff, not shit watered down lager. They brew it themselves in the cellar, sounds dodgy but real ale fans will know it's good.

i've been in there, we do fairly regular real ale sessions. not sure i fancy one before a club though Barf!
i cant beat the 1.99, but holts bitter and ipa is about 2.10 in the edgerton next to salford central. rough as a badgers arse in there though!

Best Manchester nights I have been too recently have been Homoelectric and Horse Meat Disco when they played up here - both gayer than messers norton, john & michael but brilliant. Mix of ages because gays dont know when to quit!

Other than that Kraak Gallery, Soup Kitchen and Joshua Brooks have good music policy/bookings. But mostly a younger crowd. Not sure if Mint Lounge do 'proper' nights anymore but they attract over 25s.

Mint Lounge is terrible. Its just so bad. Cant belize their DJ’s got voted best in Manchester or something.

And for bars, the new Gorilla (owned and op by Trof) is the best bar to open for a few years.

I might even go down the Lass for the footy tonight. Cheap night and good all round TV screens.

To sum it up it seemed a bit nan-kid. They do retro computer games nights etc. Although the mix of 'locals' and students wasnt too bad I suppose, its just in no way trying to be cool and I can see the appeal in that Laughing out loud

I agree, but i'm way past going in *cool* bars and paying stupid money for shit beer. i prefer somewhere i can chat without my ears bleeding and a nice pint. good little beer garden too. yep, deffo getting old.

No students any more either soon. I just find it chilled out with a mature crowd, how's that? Smiling

It's always been one of the best boozers in town, just now the beer is super cheap too. I'll be in there from 5.30 today if any fuker is down. Cool

for me, soup kitchen, kraak and islington mill are all great. im looking forward to when gorilla opens up completely. mint lounge is pretty average but they do run nights still, went to swamp81 there a few weeks back.

meandyou at soup kitchen is a really good tech night that doesn't tend to be very studenty.

Usiually Monthly but I'm not sure if they take a break over summer.

Bohemian Grove is also worth checking if you're into deeper house and techno

Good shout on Islington Mill had a few messy nights in there, didn't know Soup Kitchen played tech/house.
Might have to have a wander down soon.

Big Hands is alright, decent ales and (mostly) a decent crowd.

Any decent boozers within 20 minutes walk from Heaton Park after the Roses on Friday? Need to head somewhere let it all die down before heading back into the centre. Cheers.

^There’s a pub called the Three Arrows if I remember correctly just near the entrance. I only know that because my grandparents used to take me in there to the use the toilet 20 years ago. Possibly rough.

Found it http://www.qype.co.uk/place/148720-Three-Arrows-Hotel-Manchester

Theres quite a few pubs in Rhodes going towards Middleton. Nothing will be fantastic though around there.
