So as you know im going to New York. Im a British passport holder, travelling from Spain, how do I go about getting my visa? Do I want a holiday visa of three months? What is the process? Im planning on maybe over staying my limit and living there illegally for a while. Thanks guys.

Visa waiver program is straightforward, just fill in the online ESTA form and then a form on the plane and you'll be ok for 90 days. Under the VWP you cannot apply for a change of immigration status during your stay (i.e. you can't apply for a full visa whislt on the waiver).

Having said that, I think you're mad staying on illegally Laughing out loud

If you overstay by much you might have some troubles getting back in to the US for a while.

Yea, probably (thought surely taking a dog on holiday is allowed?). How long are you going for altogether? Why don't you just go for 90 days, then fly in and out again and you're set for another 90 days.

You know you'll probs get a ban on travelling back if you overstay much? Might be difficult if you want to go back to say hello to the people you meet having stayed there for ages Laughing out loud

Can't you go to Canada/Mexico and then come back again to extend the time you're allowed to stay?

well, you cant work so you cant get any money, cant use any public services, and then when you try to leave (fly back) they will see you have expired your visa.

generally you get a visa ban, eg you cant come back for a few years.

The Three Year Bar: Persons who remain in the U.S. after their authorized stay has expired for more than 180 days but less than one year, and who leave the U.S. prior to the institution of removal proceedings, are barred from reentering the U.S. for three years from their date of departure.

The Ten Year Bar: Persons who remain in the U.S. after their authorized stay has expired for more than one year, and who leave the U.S. prior to the institution of removal proceedings, are barred from reentering the U.S. for ten years from their date of departure.

Hello World, loads of people employ people illegally over there, sure I could get a bar job being a good looking english dude and a mean cocktologist. What do you mean by not using public services?

The dog isn't a big worry, it could be that you were giving it to a friend as a present (depending on how long quarantine etc is).

Last two trips they have been a lot stricter, asking loads of questions! They will probably know if you have a return flight booked!
Also im not sure if its the same there but now before you check in in england they have some security people go through all your details again to do with your esta

Yep you ain't getting an esta without return flights.

If I was you I'd apply for a short-term work visa and see what happens, don't know why you'd plan to stay illegally instead of trying legally first.

employing illegal immigrants is a massive fine over there probably harder being UK citizen than just being another mexican, dont get hurt because rolling into ER is not going to work etc.

the esta is the online visa waiver application you have to fill out as a tourist before you travel.

https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/

i mean dont get hurt / get ill / have an accident because you will be illegal. I guess you can get cash in hand work from friends who dont care about $2000 to $10000 fines, you are hardly likely to get caught since there are 20 million illegals in the USA, but most dont come as tourists and then dont leave.

you 100% need a return ticket / another flight out in advance of travelling.
