My current car is auto and won't go back to manual unless finance dictates otherwise

Rob, Mercs used to be famed for crap manual gearboxes though I'm not sure that is still the case, they definitely hardly make any manuals in comparison to autos -merc factory builds will often upgrade certain things on orders for free if it keeps the production line going. eg. I speciesd flat black paint on my merc to save some dough and it landed with metallic -I was told it probably would when I put the order in. They also quite often send out motors with an auto box in when a manual is ordered by a customer, though I reckon that will be less likely to happen with a cheap as chips finance order than going in through a merc dealer and paying through the nose.

Think he was pulling your leg mate.

Why would a bigger engine mean more gear changing necessary? Would've thought it'd be the other way round with more power and a bigger torque spread it'd be easier to stay in one gear. The current 7 and 8 speed gearboxes are all autos anyway. Manuals are still on 5 or 6.

Sending out an auto box when someone specced manual is a total myth, that's like asking for a cup of tea and getting a can of coke, no-one would have that. You're talking as if auto is an upgrade to manual snf the only reason people buy a manual is 'cos they can't afford an auto. Autos are good in big wafty cars but aren't much fun to drive, driver focused cars will come with a manual every time, very few automatic sports/super cars out there. Reason Merc sell so many autos is cos they're mainly driven by old biddies.

Yeah course he was pulling my leg.
I've just explained why merc do what they do, and you decide it's just not right so it doesn't happen. Ok whatever.
An auto gearbox is an upgrade in any motor.
911's, Aston's, ferrari's, any BMW M coupes are all driver focused cars, supercars that are generally specced in auto.

Even take a comparatively "boring" v6 e coupe merc out for a test drive with a tiptronic gearbox like mine and come back on here and tell me it's boring/ not fun. No offence mate, but you ain't got a clue.

You can't even buy an auto M coupe, doesn't exist; no fully auto Ferraris either, again for the sporty Porsches, GTs, etc only come in manual. An auto gearbox is an upgrade in any motor, and then I don't have a clue, actual LOL!

Can guarantee if you sent someone who'd specced a manual 911 an auto they would 100% send it back, people spec manual for a reason. Porsche sell twice as many manuals as tips. It's not as if their target market can't afford it is it. Aston aren't raw drivers cars, they're big GTs, you wouldn't have a manual gearbox in a Merc CL or something would you.

For what it's worth: E-class coupe - most grandaddish car in it's class, plus it's built on a C-Class chassis, unlike the standard E-Class.

Smiling

yeah course there is going to be at least one car in the world manual, its the way of the world
saying that, ive never had an m3, i had a 330i. but im sure i drove one and it wasnt manual. i remember pushing some super speed button that made it take off like a rocket, i deffo did that in it, but i dont remember going through a workout whilst driving the cunt.

p.s ferraris are the worst driveing car on the planet in manual. you get out of the thing crying in agony. its worse than 12 rounds with tyson or 3 weeks of five a side with mr x . fact.

you can't get a manual m3. not the same as a 330 at all!

believe you on the ferrari count, but either way, 90% are driven by non driving enthusiasts anyway, just people that wanna look the part.

They've never made one? My mate had an M3 convertible and I'm sure that was a manual. One here too - http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C291899

Edit: Or did you mean you can't get an auto M3?
