I'm picking up a new suit for work this evening and want to grab some new shoes to match up with it. The suit is navy with a very feint pinstripe.

My question to you is; do you go for black or brown shoes?

Black. Brown and you're in Essex wide boy/dodgy estate agent territory imo.

Out of the options, Black.

But yes, some form of Oxblood Brogue (see Paul Smith) would be a good choice.

I'm not convinced black shoes and a navy suit go well together.

I like the idea of oxblood though!

Black does not look good.

I wear a lighter pair of brown paul smith shoes with my navy suit.

Will take pics the next time I do.

Get some decent Brogues/Oxfords in a nice deep brown (or Oxblood would work, I guess). Polish them with increasingly darker shades of polish and they'll end up looking like classics.

It just looks strange, too similar or something, even the thought of black shoes with a navy suit is making me cringe.

There was a picture recently of that guy who is the director of kilgour and he was wearing the coolest navy suit i have seen with black shoes. This guy was voted one of the most stylish men on the planet so i would say you could wear black.

Carlo Brandelli, It can work on the rare occasion and with differnet materials/fabrics navy can look differnet i.e lighter/darker texture can make a difference. Some can have a shine alomost like a tonic and thats possibly an option that it may look good with but as a rule Id say stay clear as you look like an accountant.
