Going to be booking a holiday for August on the 22nd returning the 31st.

As I got so much help before with Thailand on here by the most helpful bunch of fukers ever, thought I would try the same with New York.

We have found relativly cheap flights (£291 each, this is good right?)

Anyway we have a choice to fly to JFK or Newark? Which is best to fly to?

We havent sorted out accomdation yet, so this is where I need help. Where is the best areas to stay? We dont have a massive budget for a hotel, but dont want to slum it either.

Also what are good things to do, with the 8 days we have there? We want to do all the tourist sort of things, see the sights etc, being our first time there.

I'm off to New York for a week soon and wanted to pick the brains of anyone who lives there or knows it well. We are showing in the Coterie exhibition so will be staying in mid-lower Manhatten

The main recommendations I'm looking for are for good places to eat. So far I have the following shortlist:

1 - deli food - Katz Deli (the place of the orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally). They do killer pastrami sandwitches.
2 - Burgers - Looking to try Shake Shack but The Parker Meridian Hotel hidden burger joint is also pretty good
3 - Ceviche - Yerba Buena has come highly recommended by friends
4 - steak / ribs - tried a few places and not really been impressed
5 - cakes - tried Magnolia bakery (made famous by Sex And The City) but is isn't as good as Hummingbird bakery in London
6 - Pizza - Lombardis was great
7 - Chinese - looking for receommendations of authentic food rather than westernised versions
8 - Southern food - looking for recommendations

I'm not really after Indian or Brasilian food as I get to try those at source.

thanks

Iain

Cant help you with chinese, but theres this good place for Thai called 'Sea' in Williamsburg - four stops on the L train from 14th St/Union Sq.
Burgers - I actually recommend Good Burger. There's one on about 53rd and Lexington, though I think there's one closer to mid-town.
Pizza- Everyone goes on about Grimaldi's, but I found it too busy and cramped. There's a take away pizza place next to Katz called 'Rays' and its just as good if not better.
Steak - Bobby Vans in the Helmsley Building off Park.

RUB did great southern bbq, there's a cool german bbq place as well for similar food.
There are loads of good (but expensive) steak places, mmmm porterhouse platter

Schillers on Rivington is owned by the same guy as Balthazar, have been there loads, very nice too.
Fanellis in SoHo is good for lunches / afternoon beer.

Heading out again on the 9th, does anyone have any good shopping recommendations? I can't be arsed doing the streetwear tour again, Reed Space, Alife etc were gash last time I was over. Anything in the Supreme/J Crew/Uniqlo vein of things would be best. Any good food shouts would be welcome too!

Go to Junior’s Most Fabulous Cheesecake & Desserts in Brooklyn, they've been awarded the best Cheesecake in New York (and therefore, nearly in the world) several times, such a great spot.
