A week in Vegas flies by, especially if you break it up with a trip to the Canyon - I've driven up there from Vegas and stayed overnight at the South Rim (Tusayan has some lovely hotels and does Helicopter tours from the local airport) with the wife midway through a Vegas break and it was a pretty cool way to break up the week.

As MoB said, I'd advise sticking West of the USA too - plenty to do in Palm Springs, San Diego, LA, Santa Monica and San Francisco if you want a second week somewhere.

I had to cancel holiday flights the day before due to an ill mate. I'm now looking to book a flight out ASAP (tomorrow, the next day etc) but all the cheap flight engines have gone up considerably.
What's the best way to search for flights this near, and is there a window of time where they just stop being v cheap?

I'm going to Canada, btw, and any advice greatly appreciated...

I think we going to do Vegas and L.A!

Going to book 2 hotels and flights separate.

What's the deal with flights though, I'm going to assume it's easier to fly to Vegas then get a flight back from LA. Do I just book single flights, or do any operators do any deals with this? Can search with a different return airport on virgin for example

Yeah. Fly to LV then fly out of LA - 2 separate flights although you can definitley get a package deal with Virgin as I've done that in the past.

I found central LA pretty mundane, Santa Monica is a pretty nice place to stay as there's some cool bars 'n restaurants (and you're obviously right on the beach). You can get into LA for the odd day, get out to Hollywood and see the usual sights and you've got Malibu beaches up the road too. Depends if you're planning on car hire I s'pose.

Went last month - lovely island but gotta be honest, not the kinda place that I'd ever envisage visiting on a LAD's holiday.

not really lads holiday in the sense of everyone in vests pissing on each other. more just get away for long weekend, cycle round the island, scuba dive, sunbathe.

In that case you'll be fine. Bear in mind that there are no beaches on the island (bar a couple) but there's plenty of opportunity for everything you mention and the culture is pure Mediterranean so bars, restaurants, etc are open late into the night. Saw loads of cyclists on the island doing the coast road - the local drivers are nutters though.

That all sounds rather nice instead of the usual malarkey.
Any island in the Med is gorgeous, it's just mainly us Brits that ruin it by opening up british bars serving fosters and all day breakfasts.

Not in the sense of sandy beaches no, it's all rock. Locals just dive off the rocks, jetty's or get into the water using purpose built steps. There are a couple of sand beaches (we stumbled across one miles off the beaten track at the North end of the island) but they're few and far between. Gozo (the island) has better beaches.

Been trawling all the posts on Vegas here the last few days, so far Ive gathered MGM pool is to be done as is Freemont Street & Señor Frog's Laughing out loud

Only there for 72hrs so gonna do a Grand Canyon helicopter trip (a mate said go with Maverick Helicopters as theyre one of the the best) also wanna hit that gaff outta Pawn Stars just for a look even though Ive read its not worth it.
Shopping'wise Ive the mall at Caesars Palace chalked down aswell as Undefeated, Stussy, Fruition & CRSVR as must visits (any other Tier 0 accounts around or similar?)

Anything else Im missing thats a "must do"?

A mate is DJ'ing at the Hard Rock Pool on Sat afternoon & then Pure on Sat night, anyone reached to either of these in the past?

Also whats story with outlets, with regards the ones at either end of the strip Ive been told to avoid one in favour of the other but not sure which one is the good one

@Ricer - you'll do well to get all that done in 72hrs.

If you've only got 3 days then I'd fuck Fremont Street off, there's better stuff to do. Not sure I'd bother with the Canyon trip either as it'll be to the West Rim which is nowhere near as epic as the South Rim. If you're gonna do the Canyon then do it proper.

I'd focus on gambling/getting wrecked, and checking out what all the hotels have to offer. Just get a feel for the place. The Stratosphere Tower is worth a visit to check out the rides at the top and have a beer.

I've said a million time before I'm sure. LA is hands down the worst city I've ever been to.

Whats the difference between rims (no homo) in Grand Canyon terms....as in how would one do it "proper"?

Not a big gambler tbh, getting wrecked however is guaranteed

Story with dress codes in clubs, are they as tough as Im reading online....all shirt & shoes kinda buzz, no trainers even if decent looking?
Have list sorted for Hard Rock pool party & Pure @ Caesars Palace so dont wanna get turned away like a pikey from the latter

I really fancy LA but comments like this put me off....I always like to think people
That don't like LA are just a bit dry...?

Did you drive there? Go to beaches/bars/diners? What don't you like about it?
