Yeah they tried to fire them at it, I can't remember what they called the technique. Apparently it may carry on like this until august. BP is paying for the whole thing right?

Serious question - do BP insure with a third party? I just assumed they'd self insure or maybe have a captive insurance company (therefore ultimately footing the bill).

Edit:

Quote:

BP, which had no external insurance in place for the accident, is trying to claim up to $700 million through a policy held by Transocean, the owner of the Deepwater Horizon rig that BP has blamed for the April 20 blast. A spokesman for BP said: “We believe we may be entitled to coverage for the incident under Transocean’s insurance.”

golf technique = top kill

they're saying it's "the biggest environmental disaster" ever in the US but it's hardly on the news Puzzled

Quote:

Meanwhile at least 12,000 barrels (504,000 gallons) are leaking into the Gulf every day.

BP has spent more than $940m (£645m) so far in trying to contain the disaster.

12,000 barrels is $1m a day

those pictures are impressive.

side story: The chief executive of BP sold £1.4 million of his shares in the fuel giant weeks before the Gulf of Mexico oil spill caused its value to collapse.

Quote:

Tony Hayward cashed in about a third of his holding in the company one month before a well on the Deepwater Horizon rig burst, causing an environmental disaster.

Mr Hayward, whose pay package is £4 million a year, then paid off the mortgage on his family’s mansion in Kent, which is estimated to be valued at more than £1.2 million.

His decision, however, means he avoided losing more than £423,000 when BP’s share price plunged after the oil spill began six weeks ago.

Although I read on another forum that Executives do this sort of stuff every month.

Also.. average spillage per year is quite interesting..
