I went for asics last time designed for neutral pronation (knowing nothing at the time), after a year of wearing them I took them to the running shop round the corner and they looked at the wear at the bottom and could tell that I over pronated a little. They also did some running tests. I also sized up by half as I heard a long time ago you need to do this for long distances. After that pair I'm not sure if I would buy asics again as they were in tatters after a year, so many holes in the mesh. I've now gone for a pair of Nike structures and broke my pb the first time I ran in them. |

I don't think there has ever been a sportsman so far ahead of the competition, even Woods/Federer/Ali in there primes were/are beatable, Bolt is quite literally unbeatable. |

Got myself one of those Nike+ setups & went for a run today, first proper exercise in well over a year. Done 5k in 25:53 (5.10min/km). Is that any good? I've never ran properly before but I'm thinking I will run 4 times a week increasing the distance by 1k each week (5k x 4 this week, 6k next, 7k next, etc) & try & beat the week's best time each run. Is this a good plan or can someone more clued up advise me better? Also when's the best time to run? |

That sounds like a good plan, although you won't be able to keep increasing by 1k every week forever! As long as you run frequently and push yourself it's hard to really do it 'wrong'. You could add some hill sprints if possible to make it more complex, and it'll make your Nike+ graphs look more interesting. Doesn't really matter when you run as long as it's the usual: before meals etc. Supposedly running in the morning before breakfast burns more fat and you'll get a better performance in the evening but I'm not too sure on the specifics of that. |

Looks like a good number of training runs. Might be good to fluctuate the distance and put some rest in between runs. For example: Monday - 5K Then up the distance accordingly. When you getting up to 6/7 miles, you don't want to be doing this every night. Also, maybe sign up for an organised run which will give you something to train towards and maybe work on your time. Are you trying to increase the distance or decrease the time? I wouldn't work on doing both at the same time. I would work at getting the distance up first, your time will follow after. That's how it works for me anyway. Also, don't raise 1k a week if you don't feel comfortable enough to, you could end up injuring yourself and lose interest. Talking about the best times to run, I don't think it matters too much really. Ideally I would love to get up at 6am and get it out of the way, but I'm lazy and that never happens so usually I go after work in the evenings and then early mornings at the weekend to get it out of the way. |

bumping this to see how everyone’s running is going at the moment (also to shamelessly plug the running gear that I’m currently selling - all quality kit) Anyone got any races coming up? (think someone on here was doing Edinburgh this year, but can’t find the thread now…) I’ve been training quite consistently for the past few months, working on getting my 5K and 10K times down. Currently doing around 45-50 MPW spread over 5 runs. Have also been doing a lot of cycling, which has been good cross training. Really want to do the Liverpool marathon this October but am going to be at the other end of the country so am worried that it may be too difficult to get to. Will probably end up entering anyway if I can finalise accommodation and stuff. Have got a place for the next Brighton Marathon, though it’s not for another year. |

Bit of a crossover for the iphone thread but I've used Runmeter since the beginning of the year as I was fed up of buying Nike + sensors and it's a fantastic piece of kit. |
