i know nothing about the brand really. was just surprised they've done so well. owning 2 big online stores probably gave them a big helping hand when they got started... looks like they just run cult..

love stories like this though..

Quote:

That's how Dunkerton started, after his father gave up his London life as a BBC producer to make organic cider in Herefordshire. Dunkerton was 14 at the time.

"It was the epiphany moment, when I realised that no one there had access to the clothing products that I had in London," he recalls. "I was the only kid in school with a pair of winklepickers."

At 19 he set up business in a condemned shop in Hereford, paying £30 a week rent. "I would go to London to buy stuff and change trains from Paddington at Newport on the way back with binbags full of stock," he says. "I would be blocking the entire gangway."

After a year, he moved to Cheltenham and started Cult Clothing, selling clothes on a market stall, funded by a £2,000 loan and £40-a-week Enterprise Allowance Scheme grant. Two years later he took a shop in the town and the business grew steadily under the Cult brand until Dunkerton and Holder came up with Superdry six years ago.

Everyone who runs a successful company has to have an amusing/inspirational tale to tell about how they started out in their granny's kitchen with 4 pairs of pants, eating stale bread every day until they built it to a multi-million pound empire, no-one ever says "I borrowed 50 grand from the bank, negotiated with suppliers, and opened a shop"

Im not surprised, they have huge retail stores everywhere, pricing isn't cheap, people wearing it everywhere.

Essentially they pushed insanely hard this year to be able to get a great forecast next finical year, need the huge stores to justify the huge forecast.

If they can even show they will meet a quarter of growth, they can float of this or next years forecast on the business model.

All a bubble though, depends if the city believes this will last.

I remember superdry from about 4 years ago, beckham was in this and it sold from asos, actually when it was a bit more clthes that had been on celebs.

Quote:

here’s footballer David Beckham wearing a Superdry leather jacket. The Superdry brand and this particular style (we’re told its called Brad) gained popularity and reportedly flew off the store shelves when Beckham started wearing his Superdry leather. That’s the power of celebrity, baby.

that aswell, this tee was everywhere, i think i've even got one never worn in red and gold Laughing out loud

said on a website earlier that they sent out loads of free clothes to celebs. i guess most new clothing companies do that..

Quote:

The worn-in leather jacket costing £175 soon became a favourite with the footballer and thousands of men were keen to emulate his style. The company has sold 70,000 and 25,000 are already on order for this autumn.

70,000 at 175... 12,250,000 from that one jacket.

the one in Sheffield never seems to have anyone in, I think it's too pricey for Sheffield.

Don't know why PRPS never took them to court for the Superdry jeans.

No it was the back pocket folded over, the different coloured buttons, the knee darting and the popper buttons on the waist that I thought were similar.
