Thinking of going to Thailand sometime early next year. Will probably be on my own, thinking of a beach and avoiding bangkok.

Dont really know much about the beach areas but wanna stay somewhere nice but still near some sort of 'action'.

Anyone been anywhere they would reccommend?

Anyone know the best places to exchange GBP into Baht before I go? I leave in 2 weeks and want to change about £200 before I go and get the rest out when I get there.

Looked at post office rates but they seem shit.

If you're in London there is a place off the aldywch...just on the strand. Best rates around. For 200£ it won't make a huge difference who you use though...

Been in Thailand for almost 4 weeks now...in samui at the moment. Loving it. Mr white - anywhere good bars in lamai or is everything decent in chaweng?

Looks Cool

Think I'm just gonna go down the travellers cheques route. Seems to be the best way to not get raped on surcharges/poor exchange rates.

If you have time get a Halifax clarity card...dont charge for withdrawals and give good exchange rates also. Have a read here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money

how long you staying in thailand?

in lamai go to the rock bar, its by the grandmother and grandfather rocks. love it there. they sell weed and mushroom shakes. such a chilled out bar bang on the beach, always playing reggae. another one is the jungle club, you use your bike or taxi to get there then they have to take you up the rest of the hill using a special 4x4 as it's so steep... real awesome view. beach republic is always nice but a bit pricey.

the cliff restaurant on the edge of the mountain on the main road is a brilliant place to take a bird, awesome steak and the view's brilliant.

a lot more in chaweng but lamai's so much quieter and nicer imo

ive just spent the day in a park in bkk, was so nice. near mo chit bts skytrain. full of thai lads all sat there drawing the bridges and lakes etc.. sad bastards but yeh proper relaxing

Chaweng is horrible now. Last time i was there it may as well have been magaluf. Sad Tao is only slightly better but is less full of typical drunken brits on the piss nobheads.
Had a bad motorbike crash near Lamai about 15 years ago so got patchy memories and have not been back since. Try Bophut, always a bit quieter and has a nice vibe.

Just a few more days. I'm pretty close to the cliff restaurant - went past it yesterday, looked good. Will check out the rock bar too, cheers

Any fukers out between tomorrow and 22nd Sept? I'm flying out in a few hours. Will be in Bangkok and down the Gulf coast during my stay so let me know if anyone wants to get a beer.

i was in a remote village last xmas day so i dont have much idea. ive heard pattaya is pretty busy and crazy during that period. so you could party a bit then get a boat to koh samet which is quieter and has nice beaches.. 1 hour away i think it is.. need to check the weather of course. not sure about other places in thai over xmas

Back out in Thailand on the 27th feb for 2 wks.

What's chiang mai like? Thinking of going therefor a couple of days.

So far I'm looking at Bangkok>Krabi>Phi Phi

Any other recommendations?

Cheers.

Does anyone have any experience with teaching English in Thailand? Is having a title a necessity? Any info about living there long term will be gratefully received! Thanks
