No love with smtp.ntlworld.com, smtp.virgin.net or smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

This is the error message I get.,

virgins smtp's will only work if you're within the virgin network, just incase you're sending from a hotspot or something.

also it wont parse all addresses, if you're sending from a mac.com account or bt account it probably wont work.

get this http://www.smtp.com/?gclid=CKLxnMyViZgCFQ5NQgodkR-5ew

or if you're extra cheap this http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html

then you can send emails where ever you are with any email address

i had virgin broadband installed but we have had lots of problems, i used my mobile to contact them and looking through my bill, there is about 30 quids worth of call charges.

The problem was all at virgins end, they did not connect the line through properly.

Could i get some money compensated?

Any virgin users had any problems connecting more than one computer to the wireless network? Is there setting you have to change to allow this? My mate just got his gf new laptop for christmas, it connected to my wirelss fine and she can connect using ethernet, but not wireles..

one thing I read yesterday is it might be a hub and apparently these can only assign one IP address to connect wirelessly, so that may be the problem.. but anyone else have any ideas or had the same problem?

Would rather be able to tell her what to change than go round and fix it :/

I've got three computers running off one wireless router. Took some mucking about with the settings to get one of them to work as it's running windows 98 but the vista and windows 7 laptops connected without any problems.

To get the old windows 98 computer to connect I had to change the wireless mode setting to "b only" and the encryption type had to be WEP. I did get an error message come up about an IP conflict but that fixed itself when I restarted

Get her to install some auto ping software and see if it gets a response. When I had problems with the windows 98 machine I could ping sites but couldn't connect using my browser until I changed the settings

Cheers Robii, one of the things to try on my list was setting security to WEP, Shes running XP. Hate been the techy amongst mates spent 5 hours the other day sorting my mates sisters laptop Evil

I've just remembered I had a similar problem getting my phone to connect to my network and that was also resolved by changing the auth type to open (WEP) and security to WEP so I think that's the most likely cause

Has anyone else had billing problems with Virgin? I signed up for the £18/month bundle (plus telephone line rental) where the first 2 months were free and it was to be paid on Direct Debit. Yesterday I got a bill for nearly £100 and was told that was for just the first month Laughing out loud . The lad on the phone said there was nothing he could do because there were no notes on the account.

I've sent the complaint online but I'm not hopeful tbh. If anyone else has had any problems like this then what's the best thing to do in getting it sorted?

I had something similar.

Said the first two months were £19.99 but when collection time came they charged me £77! Broke it down saying most of it was installation fees and the second month was part of the first bill. 2nd months bill was £49 Laughing out loud

Cunts! The actual net service is good though so not complaining
