I searched for a similar topic on this forum but did not find anything. it's a topic like on any other forum, where you post something that has influenced, or is influencing you. I know the Pics thread could be used for something similar, but I think that thread is "busy" enough(in a good way). It can be anything, not even fashion Sort of like an everybody Tumblr, but less narcissistic..or maybe more, fuck if I know-but lets try to keep single post minimal, we dont want to have post way too bloated like TUMBLR

I guess I'll start. This video has simply some of the best cinematography I've seen in in a rap video, I would really like to recreate these kind of images

I don't think that much about what I wear, but I really wouldn't want to recreate/replicate anything that someone has already done.

totally impossible. You can't help be influenced by the world around you, subconciously you'll pick up on things and make them your own. Everyone on here will have been influenced by someone at somepoint, thats no bad thing. It only becomes bad when you become a carbon copy of the influence.

well put. i find it somewhat similar to my taste in other things, such as music. my music tastes change all the time, and i find my tastes in clothing i like changes a lot too. i'm definitely always being influenced by everything i see, theres just too much good stuff and creativity being thrown around all the time, especially online. this is why i really like stuff like tune magazine or style blogs that aren't super boring and safe 'menswear tumblr' type stuff. even if there is a ton of really bad stuff, the gems are worth finding. these are two of my favorites

very true what ridingscared has stated above even if you make an concerted effort to avoid what you may perceive as the main or a particular style/look or any cultural influences, you are making a concious decision to not be influenced and for some means funnily enough following another trend.

I try to be influenced by authenticity. shit thats "real". every time I buy a product from a ball point pen to an $800 jacket I ask my self a few questions. Is there a better example of its kind/category? how does it fit in with the rest of my gear? is it a good investment/ie will it last a long fucking time?

I'm slowly getting better at asking these questions and understanding what I really like, want and will enjoy using vs whats hype and whats temporal/fashion/trend. It's different to buying something because its not fashionable like a hipster, its asking the above questions about every product, in fashion or not and buying only what I will love having and using.

So I guess I'm influenced by the never ending quest to have and deploy my own personal "perfect gear". I'll never get there but I believe I can get close.

The `90s in Japan is obviously where my basic style comes from but its not really an influence, I was in Japan in the late `90s and experienced the peak of the urahara boom first hand so its part of my life that I will always carry on in some form, not an influence.

what I mean is I wouldn't think "he looks good, I'll copy what he's wearing"
