Probably gonna get absolutely slated but I need advice and I am man enough to admit it.

My wardrobe now consists of the same boring clothes of which I only wear a few of the items. I only buy Paul Smith and Hugo Boss because that is what I know, use to buy other labels years ago but haven't a clue now.
I just don't know what labels and styles a 36 year old man should wear.

If I had the looks, body and money of Beckham things might be easier but I don't, more like a skint Bruce Willis!

Not sure how I came across this forum but everybody seems a decent bunch, a lot younger and a little to trendy for me but I thought and hoped that someone could give me some advice and point me in the right direction.

I just want to be smart/respectable and current. Just someone that people think that dresses well.

My nuts are now officially hanging out there!

I guess it depends what you are into, though by saying you wear Paul Smith & Hugo Boss is that for casual clothing or suiting?

Also, what/who do you think looks decent as this would then give people some ideas

But in all seriousness, I reckon Reiss has some nice smart stuff this season, and surprisingly gap. Stick around.

walk into uniqlo

Go and pickup and try on the oxford shirts to get your size. Then buy classic light blue, grey (couple of shades), whites and a pink if you fancy. If you have more cash and are taller go and buy Ralph lauren of the same thing.
Then go and get some grey, black and navy crew neck jumpers, plain no pattern, if you have the money cashmere, or if not the merino wool ones are fine.
Then go and look at the jeans, you want straight leg jeans, in a raw dark denim (japanese model) and one lighter wash pair of your choice.
Then go an look at the straight chinos in classic mustard, olive and navy or go to GAP and look at the same things based on fit.
Then go to clarks and get some desert boots, some kind of low casual show like a moc toe or weaver and one smarter brogue leather type in a brown or something.
Find a pea cost from somewhere in navy black or grey.
some kind of windbreaker style coat

that is your winter / autumn wardrobe.

for summer change oxford for polo shirt of the same colours or a linen light fabric oxford and roll the sleeves up.
some kind of harrington style jacket in a normal cloth for your summer jacket or a light wool blazer.
shorts are optional but go for some cargo types otherwise jsut where the chinos above
if you want sandles get some birkenstocks.

instant credible smart casual look.

quality basics is where its at. you need:

good fitting jeans - 1 dark and 1 washed
couple lightweight knits
good quality simple t/shirts
smart/casual leather boots/shoes
converse type shoe
good quality, plain belt in black / brown
well fitting casual jacket
leather jkt

I reckon thats a good starting point regardless of your habits.

Give us some of your lifestyle pointers to help us know where you're going to wear this stuff also your build to know what brands will fit

Thanks Gentlemen. Didn't expect such a quick response.

Generally wear trainers/jeans and a polo shirt, any of which will be Paul Smith or Hugo Boss.

I guess I was more of a townie than anything else, jeans and a label shirt like Ralph Lauren for a weekend night out.

Trying to think of someone who looks decent.

That actually scared me. That actually looks like me but with more hair.

I forgot about Reiss, I do buy the odd item from there.

well im even older, i understand you dont wanna just give up, i look at the younger lot on ere, and on the streets, and just take things i like and will now suit me, keeping it quite classic(which has gone that way for awhile) for the last few years, less and less trainers and printed tees type clobber…
