A cheap hotel in Edinburgh at New Year, booking mid-November? Good luck! Laughing out loud

Do you mean a cheap hotel, or are you open to hostels?

If the former, your only real option is to trawl websites looking for what's available, because most of the popular places will have been booked up for ages.

I've got an accommodation map on my website which might be of use - http://www.stravaiging.com/travel/accommodation/city/edinburgh - if you go down to the bottom of the list there are hostels.

Yeah, it's very much a work in progress though and I don't have enough time to do everything I want on it. More ads are planned though, certainly.

Any Edinburgh fukers want 2 free tickets to The Stand comedy club for tomorrow night? Can't make it unfortunately.

The Stand wrote: The Thursday Show

Doors: 19:30 Show: 21:00 Full: £8.00 Conc: £7.00 Members: £4.00

The weekend starts here! Five acts on a two hour stand-up showcase. Featuring our ace comperes, the best headliners on the circuit, several support acts and a short spot for a newcomer. Great show and great value as it’s usually the same line-up as our premium Saturday night show for a fiver less.
Home-cooked hot food available…

With Carey Marx, John Gillick , Iszi Lawrence and James Kirk. Hosted by Susan Morrison.

Thinking of going to Edinburgh with the mrs for a night next weekend. What's the best area to stay? Few nice hotels near the waverly train station..

Decent ideas of things to do, will only be there from early sat morning and get the train home late Sunday night so not loads of time just wondering whether it's worth it.

Edinburgh is quite compact so you can get around a lot of it on foot. A hotel near the station would be fine for the main sites etc.

As misled says, a hotel around Waverley would be ideal for all the main things to do and see in the centre.

Off the top of my head the only couple of things you might be interested in that are a bit further out would be the zoo and the Botanic Gardens, both of which can be got to easily by bus or taxi.

It's a great city for walking around in, and you could see plenty in a couple of days at a relaxed pace.

Well there is a few decent hotels around the station for 80-90 a night which is about right. Just need a couple of shouts where to eat ad get some drinks on the Saturday evening really and which area to head to.

Sounds like we will easily find something to do in the day time.

Can anyone suggest somewhere to eat at night, got a room at the Nira caledodonia hotel. Is there much round there?

Not looking for anywhere too topper but still somewhere nice with a decent atmosphere.

Also any decent pubs/bars we should make an effort to go to.

Cheers

Headed down at end of the month for 3 nights, need somewhere to park the car!

Staying just off the Royal Mile but NCP parking nearby seems to be i the region of £25 a day. Don't really want to pay rape prices.

Anyone know anywhere better to park?

The long stay car park at Waverley is £18.50 a day, so a bit better. Only 4 quid per day at weekends if you happen to be here then.

There's pretty much always spaces available on Calton Road, but it's a "maximum stay 4 hours" job so only really suitable for overnight if you're using the car for part of the day.
