Would be plenty of places to pick up a decent breakfast I would say. Was down a few weeks ago and nipped in here http://www.oinkhogroast.co.uk/ to pick up some lunch, massive pulled pork rolls with a choice of extras, good stuff.

None of the List suggestions are near your hotel (no stalker) unfortunately.

Depending on what time you have your breakfast (and what day you're visiting):

Nice café in the basement of St Giles' Cathedral - http://www.glenfinlas.com/cafes/st-giles-cathedral-cafe/ / http://www.stgilescathedral.org.uk/wmslib/pdf_files/st_giles_menu_2_on_A3.pdf

Good café under the National Gallery of Scotland, with views out onto Princes Street Gardens - http://www.nationalgalleries.org/visit/cafes-restaurants/

There's a decent café in the National Museum of Scotland, great place for kids too - http://www.nms.ac.uk/our_museums/national_museum.aspx

There are plenty of coffee shops along the Royal Mile, and a few on George IV Bridge. None as topper as your hotel though!

Thanks all…

Thanks Andy - I didn't want to ask you directly as I'm sure you must tire of being a tour guide, but I knew you'd come up with the goods.

Also, nice to see your excellent research skills are still on point Eye-wink

Thanks for the recommendations, will most definitely check out one or two. Hello!

If you want breakfast go to Has Beans on the Canongate (bottom of the Mile). They do the best morning rolls which are massive and make good coffee aswell.

Down to Edinburgh next weekend with the lady for christmas shopping etc, staying in Malmasion in Leith, looking for suggestions for somewhere for dinner on Saturday night, nothing too fancy, just some good food. She has suggested le monde, just because she has been there before with pals, im not fancying it though, so have been tasked with finding somewhere!

there is a seafood place called the "ship on the shore" or something that is literally a stones throw away from your hotel.

its vv good. but a touch on the pricey side. worth checking out though. … and you will probably need to book.

Went to Angels with Bagpipes last night. It was very very nice. I had Scallops followed by Venison. Would recommend.

Is there a view out the back at all? Always think it looks a bit poky and cramped from the front.

Was down the other week and checked out that new craft beer place in Lothian Road, The Hanging Bat. Both beer and bar snacks were great.

Edinburgh's pretty well catered for if you like beer.

I haven't managed to get over to The Hanging Bat yet, but thought it looked interesting. The Red Squirrel over that way is pretty good too.
