ipad isnt jailbroken or whatever and i want to be able to take ipad on train or wherever.

all the files are on the laptop.

and then plug the ipad into the laptop and drag and drop?

i've never plugged it into laptop before but all the apps and things sync into the itunes.

There's a checkbox, that you need to hit when you connect your ipad in itunes. It's something like manually sort and you also need to check the box for itunes to stop automatically sync evetytime your ipad is connected.

Then it's a case of drag and dropping the files.

i just plugged the ipad in and it says 'set up as new ipad' if i click this it wont wipe it or anything will it?

Do not set up as new ipad because it format everything you have already, what other options are there?. Are you setting your ipad on a different machine?.
