iplayer doesn't work currently. No GPS, so not much use for map reading on the move.

list of uses keeps dropping down. Sad

^I can guarantee that the Iplayer be up and running soon on the Ipad. However, there's a workaround: download a free iPhone browser called Sphere and then run iPhone iPlayer in that, even blown up to the iPad screen using the 2x button the quality isn't bad too.

Are you going for one?

I was just about to order one, but I resisted.

The way I see it, I was originally going for the £429 basic 16GB/Wifi model. But you add £30 onto that for the case, and you're looking at £460. But although I won't have any music on there, when I start adding some videos (which will have to be pretty high resolution, too), photo libraries, and cbr, and then when apps start to take up more and more space, 16GB starts to look a bit weedy. So add £70 onto that for the 32GB version, because I don't want to be left with the 16GB version if it turns out it's not enough.

But then, I have this wonderful piece of kit with a great web browser and plenty of apps requiring internet access, so wouldn't it be nice to be able to use it anywhere, even if I don't have a wifi connection? And I don't want to buy a wifi model and then discover it's useless to me without 3G. So yes, it's an extra £100 for that. Plus a monthly charge.

In the end, it's over 600 quid for this thing. 600 quid. Fuck. I came to my senses and closed the browser window. I think I'm going to sit this one out, but buckly most probably.

It's funny but I was thinking the same thing, I thought I'd plumb for the 16GB but worried it wouldn't be enough as it's use will be different to that of an iPhone so think should go for the 32GB but with all the charges for net access it starts looking as a bit pricy to very expensive. I'm guessing like most cannot justify the expenditure of getting one. I think it's a wonderful piece of kit but too pricy I think I'll wait for ver.2 when it'll probably have double the memory but be the same price.

Wait a sec, I've got an O2 payg sim atm in my iphone, I need to make 1 call a month and top up at least a tenner a month and I get actual unlimited 3g use (via the 10er web bolt on)

I know its not a micro sim but surely you can get away with something like that?!

You probably can't:

"O2: Unlimited web and WI-FI is for use with your iPhone only. If your SIM is not being used only in an iPhone then we will remove this within the next 30 days."

So they know through the IMEI of the handset (manufacturer and model), as well as looking at the protocols being used i.e MAC range or similar.

What are you planning on using it for AAA? I'm trying to work out why anyone would want one over an ultraportable laptop with a 3g dongle?

did you buy a 3G one? if so the micro sim costs 20p. I would go with O2 its the best value £10 pcm non recurring contract, plus bt open zone wifi access.
