Go for a standard Eastpak or Carhartt jobbie.

M&S had a nice mid size leather msgr bag last time I popped in, good quality, also weekend bag at reasonable rates.

Can't go wrong with a classic Brady bag IMO.

Mine is still looking good after 10 years…

If you're going to spend enough for Vis then you could defiitely afford Mulberry.
Outlet in Bicester has some gorgeous satchels and messengers for £200-270, last you for ever and only loook better with age.

Theres a really nice one on Mulberry but its 500 !!! Anf if I were to spend that much it would have to be something better than nice . I keep trying to persuade the other half to go to Bicester so maybe a trip could be called for sometime soon

Messenger bags of those size (especially the full size e-cat) are pointless unless you're a cyclist. Those bags are meant to be worn laid horizontally on your back, especially when you're carrying heavy stuff. Doesn't work other wise.

Doesn't look that big to me, remembering this guy's a tiny Japanese man as well. Looks about the size of a regualr backpack. What I'm planning to do is buy this and dye the white straps different colours (not neccesarily copying the raf ones)

Lukeatme, I was referring to Murakamis post… not yours… But since you've mentioned it we've done an article on bags recently… http://www.scoute.org/issue/may/spend/index.html both feature the Raf and Hare one. I didn't write it though but drop us an email if you have any further questions and the relevant person will pick it up (there's only 3 of us :LolSmiling

you wont be able to dye those straps as i would highly doubt they are cotton so they wont take dye,to be honest that hare one is a better bet than the raf ones which are ok,but pretty useless function wise, unless you got money to blow on something that will be outdated by end of the summer i wouldnt even humor buying one.

Yeah, I'd never pay the money for a raf one, but the hare is only about £40. Would fabric paints work or anything similar, if not I could always replace the straps with ones I could dye myself.

Luke, just buy that one and keep it the colour it is. Looks fine like that.

I need to buy a new strap for my leather Gap messenger as it's all frayed around the brass part you attach it to. Where could I purchase a new strap?

to be honest fabric paint would look pretty shit and i think again wouldnt take to sythetic material, you could remove and reattatch your own straps but you would need a decent sewing machine to do it nicely/properly im not sure if its a specific type of stich on bags, all in all i think it would be a lot more hassel than its worth
