I'm thinking about getting one… but just wondered what people thought of them?

I'm gearing myself towards a Barbour Border in navy - Olive/Green makes me think 'farmer'… also, the Bedale and Beaufont make me think 'hipster' - the Border is longer and more defined. I'm also thinking in investing in a hood for it to make it less cuntry-side.

Also, what's good to wear with these jackets for a good look?

Anyway, opinions/advice gratefully received.

(oh, and by the way, if it's any consolation, I do actually live in the sticks - not that I need to justification because I don't want to look like a farmer anyway!)

You're 2 years late, noone will care all over again about you wearing a barbour. However they are exceedingly practical items of clothing and will keep you dry and warm and out of the wind.

Oh no, I appreciate that.

I think, with everything, you can be original with how you'd wear one. I think most people would be lying if they said it was just about functionality… you need the balance between something being suitable and looking good. I'm just trying to weigh up whether I should get a cheap one or not. Puzzled

Anyway, ta for the feedback! Eye-wink

Like I think these ones look alright…

http://www.asos.com/Barbour/Barbour-Carbon-Earle-Jacket/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1186213&SearchQuery;=barbour&Rf-700;=1001&sh;=0&pge;=0&pgesize;=20&sort;=-1&clr;=Black

They don't strike me to be as 'barbour-y' as most… I think it's the darker colour, the hood and the longer length. I want something practical, hard-wearing but stylish.

i picked up a black waxed barbour transport jacket from tk maxx ages ago for about £50 and absolutely loved it when new but it soon looked rubbish and greying as the wax wore off and i was too lazy to get it rewaxed.

so you need to bear in mind that you will keep nedd to get it rewaxed or whatever.

If you're getting a Barbour don't go Carbon, gotta be wax IMO.

Atleast he can half dress himself. Most footballers are still into their tight sequin/diamond encrusted t-shirts and generally shit looking jeans and daps

Haha, you mean an All Saints-speshs? That's what I think of when I think of footballers… hideous, OTT shitty tees with foiled skull logos sprawled all over them and faux-vintage fading. Sick!

Ay, I am confusing the matter! Just the syling/cut I meant. Eye-wink

I was looking into Borders… and christ, they are bloody long jackets. Eek

I'm going to decide by tonight what to do. I've been um-ing and ah-ing over getting a Barbour for a couple of weeks now. I either want one or I don't! Stupid really, as you're right - they aren't really 'on trend' or anything…

they're nothing special, why don't you just pick up a 2nd hand one for about £30 and see if you like it on yourself. then either buy a new one or get it re-waxed… and i'm with FrIenD that this thread is really annoying..

I got my Barbour - "Cowen Commando" (named after a WWII army pattern I think) from Yoox for about £65 last Spring - might be worth having a look there too…

It's this one: http://www.orvis.co.uk/store/product.aspx?pf_id=77AC

Mind you, I'm out in the sticks too and it's worn pretty much exclusively for hacking round the woods and fields with the dog. It's a nicely made bit of kit, I'm impressed with it and it should last a good while.

If you want something less 'country' have a look at some of Albam's waxed jackets. My brothers got a black John Partridge waxed jacket in similar style that he raves about…

Sorry to bump a 5 year old thread. Anyone got any sizing tips for a Barbour Bedale? Heard it's a size down job but that advice is from 2013-2014 from Styleforum..
