Looking to go to Barcelona w/c 31-10 with the G.F. Can somebody recommend anywhere decent (doesn't have to be five star) for around 50-60 (or cheaper) a night. Were both pretty skint at the minute but need a break.
Any recommendations would be great. Not sure about what area to stay either as ive never been.

I'm in town the same week and haven't booked a hotel yet. Prices and availability are crazy just now. Think you'll be struggling at that price TBH mate.
Holiday Rentals and Friendly Rentals may be an option but they rarely have a safe, I'm sure you're aware break ins/muggings/pick pockets are pretty much a way of life in Barca.

never been the 'victim of crime' in Barca - like anywhere if you act like a tourist or try to score coke then you increase the risk but there are so many knobheads there anyone acting like they are half way savvy should be fine. It isn't cheap and cheap accomodation will be shit. A 1 or 2 star in Spain is the equivalent of a squat in the UK in my experience. Don't buy your flight before you book a room, if theres a convention in town you will be fucked.

And Las Ramblas is nasty too, give it a token touristy look during the day but that's all you need.
Eixample = luxury shopping + architecture
el Born / gotico = cooler areas, nice food, shops etc
Barceloneta = a taste of old Barcelona and faces the sea / main beach, has really nice local bakeries etc
I guarantee if you drew a line along the path your mates took, it would literally be a near full ring around those areas! The promenade up to the casinos and ramblas aren't so great late.

I stayed at Hotel Jazz when I was there last month. Great location, rooftop pool and pretty reasonable iirc.
