Morning Fuk’ers!
Looking at booking a wee city break for an amigo and myself. Thinking Barcelona mid may.
Flights and all that are no drama, but being Barca virgins, we have no idea where is good to stay and general hints for places to hit.
Hopefully some of you can assist (Paolo ???)?
Rooms wise, we are happy with whatever, I even suggested hostels as we don’t plan on spending too much time in the room over the weekend, but it’s a reasonably large place and we ultimately don’t have a Billy Ocean about it.
Heard some horror stories about Las Ramblas and the noise and the general thievery, so consider that we wouldn’t want to set up shop there?
Ps, massive time thanks to all contributing Fuk’ers for advice re: Manchester. Was great craic to be fair, really nice people, good wee bars in northern quarter, will defo head back.

Looks well good Ponyboy Curtis!
We had been looking at the Silken Diagonal, but this one seems to much more authentically catalonian. Price is almost identical too!

I stayed in Gothic Point hostel. Was pretty cool place to meet people. Pretty funky interiors. Was a little cramped in some of the rooms, but it's the luck of the draw. Giant bunk beds so don't be stepping off the top of one or you'll be carted out on a stretcher like a couple of people were.
Reckon's Best's option looks the nicest in terms of hostels.

Just pm´d this to someone:
if your looking for value for money there is a hostel which has won awards on calle tallers. I went in to have a nosey and was shocked at how nice it was for a hostel, you could have a separate room for you and your missus, cant remember exact prices but i remember remembering to recommend this place if called upon. calle tallers is the first street to the right if you start at the very top of the ramblas and start walking down towards the sea, it is therefore very central. i can get the address if you think its you?

I'd recommend trying this bar in Barca. Loved it when I went.

Bars-Raval area is the fashion, scenester part: Betty Ford, IT bar, Manolo, Pepino´s.
Clubs-Felini´s, Razmataz, Apollo, Lotus.
Really hard to sum up a whole city, without knowing tastes. Join lecool for Barcelona a week before going and that often has cool exhibitions, concerts, independant films showings, parties etc. Also guia del ocio, which can be bought from any newspaper stand for a euro is another weekly magaizine (comes out on thursdays) which really lets you know what is going on for that week, regardless of what your into.

I went for a long weekend at the start of September, I think it must have been the very end of the summer season as it wasn't super busy.
Booked to stay in a hostel private room with three mates just off of Las Ramblas, but a few days before got a message from the hostel bookers to say that it had been double booked and they were going to get us a private apartment, but at the same price. It ended up being really sweet and is it was a nice apartment with a balcony looking right over Las Ramblas.
To get to the beach was probably about a 30-40 minute walk. I'm sure you can get there on public transport, but we never bothered to use any.
Restaurants were a bit hit and miss, so if you have a guide book that tells you which ones are worth eating at might really help. We got in an argument in the first place we ate because the Paella was so shockingly bad.
Also just have to keep your wits about you. My one mate had his wallet pickpocketed in the Gothic quarter. At night on Las Ramblas you will get accosted by lots of people selling Beer, Drugs, Samosas and Prostitutes. The Prostitutes will grab on to you and not let go, one night we had six of them trying to get into our doorway, they were like zombies!
