I'm doing some research for a uni project into the best independent menswear stores in the UK, just compiling a list at the moment. Are there any in particular that you well heeled gentlemen recommend?

only been around for a year, brought a few things of there and it has always been good service. Can't comment on the actual store though

http://www.albamclothing.com/

Good items, friendly helpful staff who showed an interest and in both the customer and what they were selling, as well as knowing about their products and the sizing etc. They also have a really nice, well set out website. I like the fact also that they don't try and ram their products down your throat, similar ethos to acne in that sense with the no logo concept, which I prefer.

Overall good shopping experience.

Albam are great in store, girl I spoke to on the phone and via email however didn't know her arse from her elbow.

Oi Polloi and My Wardrobe for me. Good gear, great service. My wardrobe's discount codes are brilliant.

B Store. Good friendly service like all of the above, but sets itself apart from the rest by having consistently original and interesting stock that nowhere else has bought in.

Oh fair play then

In hindsight I should have checked that before posting. My bad.

Think it's £6.50 at Mywardrobe… Flannels is the worst for shipping, a tenner or thereabouts iirc? Jawdropping!

Garbstore & The Bureau for me, nice stores, helpful staff and good mail order, although ultimately I guess it's down to individual taste in attire and they both stock the sort of stuff I like. Also like Oi Polloi stock range but never liked the old store, everything just seemed a bit crammed in for my liking, hopefully the new store will improve on that. End's range seems to have improved a lot over the past 12 months or so and their Hunting Co store is nice.

If online then Oipolloi for a great site, varied stock & paypal which often gets priority with me. Really like the Bureau but they don't paypal and as a result miss a lot of my business - friendly service though - same applies to Endclothing.

Instore - then Garbstore for friendliness/service - their site has improved a little too. Haven't been to Present London yet but it looks pretty good.

been to garbstore once, the guys in there were really friendly and good to chat to. Also voiced some opinions rather than just pushing everything they have. I don't like their 7 day returns policy though. Takes a little while to get there for me.

Present - I know it's font's place but I've been in 3 times I think, no one's even lopoked up or said hello. Feels a bit stuffy if I'm honest, though they do have some really nice stuff. Always a group of asians in there too Laughing out loud

I've never come across anyone in albam with a non-british or american accent Puzzled the girl at the spitalfields store (which handles the internet stuff) isn't the brightest spark but all the folks in the beak st store are safe as fuck.

I hate that. I havnt been to Present so i couldnt comment on it, but just in general when someone who, at the end of the day, works in a shop, folding clothes and operating a till, thinks they're something special.

End in Newcastle is good. Really nice shop with excellent stock.
Oi Polloi, as mentioned. Friendly staff, incredible stock, good store. Little bit cheky with prices occasionally.

Sa-Kis in Sheffield. Don't really sell that much I'm into and its always full of banter boys, but the staff are really friendly
