Theres a warehouse party I'm going to mate.
Then watching the Hatton fight at mine afterwards.

depends what your into really. If you like dance music try sankeys its really good in there - think its house/electro on a sat. or, if indies ur bag, id maybe go to south or if you just wanna get pi**ed out your face go to 42's - many mite disagree on that one tho.

to the other threads, detroit brought us techno, but then manchester unleashed acid house onto the world. then youv'e got the madchester scene and brit pop - come on mancunia!

Hmmm. I think Adonis, DJ Pierre, Sleazy D, Mr Lee, Fast Eddie and the rest of the Chicago originators might disagree with that.

Acid house may have started in Chicago, but it quickly moved across the Atlantic to the United Kingdom, where it became the foundation for the early rave scene, which adopted the yellow smiley symbol to represent acid house music and rave culture.

Wikipedia - sorry! No true it did start in chicago etc. Oops

I'm not trying to have a go at Maxwell Manc here but why is it everyone from Manchester goes on and on and on about Manchester? Nearly every shop is full of hacienda posters and Oasis memorabillia. It's not like it's a tourist hot spot either so who buys them other than Mancs?
Nothing wrong with being proud of where you are from but what is it with Mancs?

they re deluded and live in a timewarp. i m from bolton which is ten minutes away and cringe how much they boast about their musical heritage. in a nutshell, there was a fantastic scene in the late seventies/early 80s which spawned joy division and the smiths etc, and then the whole stone roses and factory/acid house thing in the late 80s, then the oasis phenomenon, and that appears to be it. nothing since. every city has a major scene at some time or other. its only been the past few years you can find a manchester indie club and not hear the usual only one i know/step on/wonderwall/i am the resurection set list. nobody whos not from manchester will use it as an answer FACT (except kasabian i imagine).its a bit like a dad who still thinks he has it.

my votes for new york, for its consisency and diversity of genres where its the centre

manchester seems like a heavenly place from the perspective
of a kid growing up in suburban USA who's obsessed with
the stone roses/ oasis, etc… where this music
is unheard of.. however when i finally visited
i was very disappointed, was expecting a bunch of
cool looking liam wannabes (no homo) but all i saw were chavs and short
fat bald football types Smiling .although
still find it strange that my two favorite albums of all time:
definitely maybe and the stone roses just happen to be bands
from manchester, they definitely had something special there.

House music was big in Nottigham - Graeme Park at the Garage - long before the Hacienda.

Sheffield is a more influential city with bands like Human League, ABC, Cabaret Voltaire being amongst the first to play electronic dance music and, of course, Leeds with Soft Cell.

Glasgow too with great bands like Orange Juice and Primal Scream (who influenced the Roses).
