i can never ever ever ever imagine someone being able to drive and not doing so. wierdest thing in the world to me, ive not used public transport for 20 years, do you two love it or something…how do you cope. reading things like that makes me realise why you both either want big army mountaineering boots and rucksacks etc, i never thought people didnt drive everywhere over 17. what makes you not drive and how do you go about your daily chores..please advise?

they have passed tho, i understand some people who never drive cos they are that way inclined, ive never heard about anyone who can drive not driving except my nan whos 89.

@ hdsy, live in a city is not a good enuff excuse, how do you get the weekly shop home, cos tesco aint in the city. also, what if you have to meet someone for lunch or something miles away and you are running late and your slave isnt around, what do you do? it must happen so regularly, how do you cope.

I'm 23 and I failed 3 times when I was 17/18, then I went to uni and have not had a single lesson since, such a waste of money when I look back on it. Would like to start again but lessons are so expensive

£20 a lesson, of £180 for a block of 10.

I've had 3 x blocks of 10 at £180 each, and 2 extra lessons, plus test at £80.

Not including, the cost of getting a provisional, about £25, plus theory, £40, and practical, £50.

Can't afford another test until next March.

Proper money pit.

My brother has them in a mini and his are something like £47 for a double. I don't need a car, I live in London and it wouldn't eradicate things like night buses/cabs as i'd be too fucked to drive anyway

i reckon if someone offered me a cyanide pill or a ride on a nite bus id take the pill.
also nicking a proper bit of crumpet and she agrees to go out with you on a date to the pictures and a meal or something, and you knock on the door to pick her up in hiking boots and a rucksack and you walk her to the bus stop and join the que with the poor people in minus 3 and pissing down with rain is so not cool in my book either, it must shorten your birding oportunities by 90% imo.

20 - 28 quid a lesson?! Jesus! That would require some crazy will power not to buy any clothes/shoes etc.

Not sure how i'd handle driving in london anyways. Congestion charge… sack that.

There's a Streetcar vw golf outside where I live, but they are 4,95 an hour i think? Not like you can go to countryside and back in 1 hr…

passed on my third attempt, after going throuh a load of shite insructors and not driven since the day of my test Laughing out loud about 2-3years ago. was going to have a car but the job i had lined up feel through due to me failing a exam. so in the meantime, get the train everywhere for last few years (including town which takes about 15minutes, only slghtly longer than it would by car), wouldnt use the bus anywhere if i can help it- the people on it, slower, more expensive and unreliable

actually it is. and there's a sainsburys too.

it is never happened yet in my 25 years. all of my business happens in the city centre or on the university campus. if i were that desperate i'd get a cab or a train and it'd cost a lot less than the cost of buying a car and keeping it on the road.

it's really not that big a deal. i know loads of people who have cars and wish they didn't cause of the trouble of cars getting fucked up in Nottingham and the amount they cost.

Laughing out loud

I've got a license but haven't driven since I came to Barca almost two years ago. You seriously don't need a car here, its a pretty small city and the metro goes everywhere. I feel liberated not having the burden of a car, however if I were to settle here and get a proper job id buy a scooter, you really don't need any more than that unless your job involves transporting goods.

Ha ha I very rarely get night buses and if I snag a bird I get a cab but I wouldn't drive to things like meals ect as I wouldn't be able to drink. I only ever really go out in central so just use tube/cabs
