Where's decent to drink around the Brick Lane area? Most of my friends want to go to Cafe 1001 so we'll probably end up there but I want some decent alternatives too.

Nightjar -
Went last night. Was empty. Walked in and asked if we could sit in the completely empty section, stupid fucking bint of a waitress said "let me just check its not booked"… Of course it's not fuckin booked u dozy slag.
Took about 10mins to get served despite there being a waitress x customer ratio of 1:2.
Then took another 10-15 mins to actually get the drink.
The drinks were well presented and at first glance looked worth the wait.
Then I started drinking my cocktail, almost choked on what I thought was glass in my drink. On further inspection it was shit loads of hard black shit in my drink. Took my drink to the bar to complain where I was greeted by some cunt with the worst ironic tash I've ever seen. He told me it was "bamboo charcoal" and this is in my cocktail as coconut is not good for digestive system so they put charcoal on there to help. He then looked at me as of id asked if i could fuck his mother Well fuck me sideways. Lumps of charcoal in your drink is a new one on me.
Also I dunno if they serve food but the constant smell of omelettes cooking in there.
Then took about ten mins to get the bill.
I'd rather have a pint in a weatherspoons with the tramps than go back there.
Oh and that great service will cost you 12.5%

I haven't been to Nightjar yet but I really don't like these new cocktail bars that are trying a little too hard to do the prohibition era 'speakeasy' thing (whistling shop, 69 colebrooke row…). There's too much concept. Where's a cocktail bar in London without frills that's just cool to hang out in? I guess we just don't have a bar culture here though…

Wheres that info from YLAup?

Blackdog in the old 'Space' should be good comes summer. Good to see Peter Street getting some new bars that hopefully wont be completely shit like the places that have shut down… Hype bowling sounds good for the Great northern which is a massive waste of space in its current guise.

Just heard from a mate about blackdog also opening up a 5 lane bowling alley on Whitworth Street West down from the Cornerhouse.

Googled it and found the info on here:

Skyscraper city is a good site, thought it might be from there.

None of them open yet BSC. Cant think of any 'must go' reccomendations really either…

I'll just head to the normal hangouts then. In quite looking forward to going back actually, love the lack of pretence that Manchester has.

Yeah nothings open as yet and there haven’t really been any new bars open in the last year. Thats why its so surprising to see an onslaught of them.

Liars Club good for a late cocktail, refurbished version Purple Pussy Cat. Prob not worth a visit unless your in that part of town though, Gas Lamp is a nice basement pub near there but quite small.

Good call on gaslamp. Needs more of that sort of stuff round there to make a night of it. Gaslamp and Spinningfields offering don’t go together imo.
