Isn't class about more than just money and occupation/degrees? Know plenty of so-called graduates who are indistinguishable from the average working class person - mind you they are Northern. Probably think lager in a glass is sophisticated.

The Gatsby types can only get to Upper middle, any further has to be inherited land and money and shit.

Does current income move you up the classes?

Working class upbringing, grew up on council estate etc (North East) but earn a lot of money now and have since moved around the country (through work)

Are modesty and class related? Don't think you're in a position to bang on about modesty either Smiling

Class is ordained by birth and upbringing not income. Alan Sugar is working class becasue of his attitude. He's minted but he wouldn't use the money to buy fine art. He'd buy a new build and kit it out with huge plasma TVs and he has a huge mansion in Merbella. Upper class people would scoff at Merbella as somewhere to go in the first place.

A poor working class person would buy a KIA but a poor upper class person would buy a very old VW/Merc thinking that someone would look at it and think they had it for ages as opposed to it was the only thing they could afford.

It's not about money!! I know working class people who fund their kids when they are on the skids.

I'm upper middle because Mater and Pater went to University, worked at senior roles at blue chip firms and sent me to private school. The fact I decided to drop out, sell weed for three years, fuck up my A Levels and ended up being a dispatch rider doesn't make me working class. Throughout that troubling time I still wore corduroys and a Barbour and I know cord-du-roye comes from the French phrase for 'cord of the kings'.

Right now I'm totally skint but I'm still upper class because I'm annoying and arrogant and don't wear trainers outside of a gym.

It's attitude not actions.
