Anyone any good with Excel and Web Query files? I've created a macro that uses these web query files to pull in external HTML based data in to a spreadsheet, but i'm wondering if there is anyway of doing this without having the seperate files? Or perhaps embedding the query files within the macro? The problem is, the macro gets used by multiple sites at my company round the world and they all have access to different servers / drives. I need to save the query files to a local place for them, then give them a personalised macro that knows where to look for the query files. If I could somehow embed the files within the macro, it would rule out the need to this.

Not sure if that makes sense or not Laughing out loud

Can't you just set it up on a server and then send everyone ftp login details that need to access the spreadsheet?

Thats a possibility, but I was hoping there would be a way of getting away from the multiple file scenario. Essentially the query file is just a 3 line text file, so I can't see why it would be that hard to incorporate the text of it within the macro somewhere… i've played around with a few ideas, but nothing works… seems like it has to be a seperate file… which seems strange. Nothing on Google as far as I can see either Sad

Don't see the issue with the additional text file if it works, unless it is affecting performance, which I very much doubt.

It means having to maintain an FTP accessed folder and provide details to any new users, as well as maintain the main macro.

Having a single spreadsheet means I just have to send that out and it can be passed between users, sites and countries.

Zip it and include the ".iqy" file in a separate folder which when extracted will be correctly file pathed, and a readme with clear instructions on the line to edit for the correct file path. Send it. Job done.

Laughing out loud I know you're trying to help, but stop. I want to know if the files can be embedded…. thats all… not how they can accessed in a different way, or how to put them on an ftp or how to zip or write a readme… just if and how the files can be embedded to create a standalone macro Laughing out loud

thanks anyway

There is no way to embed the .iqy file, as far as I am aware, as it is the bridge between macro/excel and the HTML forms data.

I've just downloaded a zip file from rapidshare but I'm not sure if it's trustworthy or not. I am yet to open the zip file. How do I check the downloaded file to check it hasn't got any viruses in it?

Doesn't matter if it has a virus in it, just unzip it and if its a .exe just don't click it, providing its not a app you downloaded off course.

Ta

Virus scanner (like Avast or AVG) will be able to scan it without you opening it.

I don't think so. You might be able to reset the router back to factory settings, whcih will restore the default password.
