Restarted my PC and seems like some programs stopped loading during startup. No taskbar appeared, can't right click on desktop. Can only run programs from the task manager(file -> new task(run..)). Can't start My Computer or My Documents. Sad Seems like I've deleted something. Can't run c:/windows/explorer.exe too

You tried strarting up in safe mode? Might be some spyware stoping explorer running on start up. If the task bar loads in safe mode I'd run anti malware or similar in safe mode

You might have already tried this but just type explorer into new task, but yeah sounds like spyware.

launch Task Manager (Ctrl-Shift-Esc), go to the processes tab and kill explore.exe. Go to the Applications tab adn click on New Task and type in:
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\explorer.exe
(note that you may have to search for another copy of Explorer.exe to the one in c:\windows - to do this click on new task, type in CMD and when this opens a DOS screen click on cd\windows then DIR explorer.exe /s to see where it lives).

This should launch a valid copy of Explorer to give you the desktop back. Now run tha anti-spyware and anti-virus programs you have.

If all is OK, copy the explorer.exe from the location you found over the one in c:\windows, or find a copy of the last service pack you installed and re-run it).

That would be what I would try first.

thanks

Rookie question but are all USB memory sticks the same? Need an 8 or 16 gig one and wondered if certain brands are faster at copying stuff off your pc than others etc?

how's this look?

Linksys by Cisco WRT160N Wireless-N Router

Fucking hell. I got around to ordering/installing this. What a fucking ball ache. I now have less than 30% signal (istumber stats) and more noise %. My dad's laptop i'm not sure of % but it still drops signal when i take his macbook pro 10 metres from the fucking router. I have no idea why or what the problem is.

All different speeds… overclockers have a decent range.

Got a fucked up Windows now, was scanning for viruses, got loads then instead of moving to vault I instructed the scanner to delete them. Then realised all the viruses were from windows/system32. Now my PC won't start, it restarts everytime it get past the loading screen. Can't start in safe mode/last good configuration either. FML.

Don't want to reinstall Windows, any advice?

Format the drive and reinstall windows, if it was full of viruses doing anything else would be straight idiotic. And get a proper antivirus, don't know what you did to get all them viruses but you were doing it wrong mate, properly wrong, even downloading torrents these days is pretty much safe with good trackers. If there's anything you really need off the drive data-wise then plug it in to another comp and get the data off in safe mode or similar.

OK sounds like you have a compromised installation source for some of your software. Try the following:

1 - Find someone with a known clean PC - scan all your installation media on their computer. Find the infected disks/memory sticks etc and clean or destroy them.
2 - Get replacements if necessary and install Windows, install anti-virus software (the most current version you can) then start with the drivers for your hardware, service packs and finally applications software.
3 - scan all external disks you use on your new clean PC and you should be back with a fairly stable environment.
4 - make sure any anti-virus includes a web scanner with it and leave it active. It may slow your PC down a bit, but it's better than being infected again from some dodgey website.

if you need free anti-virus software I can recommend free.avg.com

If you do find it too much hassle to run your anti-virus then you may want to consider moving to a Mac - while they are more expensive and limited they are better suited to the maintenance averse.

thanks
