I don't think I'd ever pay for anti-virus, in tests the bought ones generally arn't much better than the free ones, and Norton especially used to be a cunt to get rid of.

I think haivng a router is a good idea too to help protect your PC.

This may be a really dense question about email, so please bear with me…

I have a gmail account, which I use for all email and everyone knows etc so don't really want to change it. Up until now i just pick up emails via webmail, although the conversation view pisses me off. I just put up with it cos my gmail address is ideal

Can I set up both my Mac Mail programme to manage my email when i'm at home, and also set up a blackberry to manage my email when i'm out and about? From the investigation i have done i think i can do one or the other but not both?! got myself confused with POP/IMAP

If it's not possible with Gmail is there an alternative like using an account provided by my ISP (but keep my gmail address somehow?!)

Laughing out loud not even sure that makes sense!!

Should be fine, I have 4 email addresses (including a gmail) set to come into my windows live mail and my blackberry, the blackberry just configures them so that they leave a copy of the message on the server after it's downloaded them.

Usually, when trying to extract rar files I get the KERBNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR blue screen. All I want to do is install Mass Effect 2 but it's not working for me Cry.

Can I fix it?

I don't have the XP cd btw.

Sounds a bit iffy, does anti virus pick up anything? If your lucky it could be a virus.

Is it a pc or a laptop Luke?

Whatever the case, can you go "Start" > "Run" > "cmd" Press enter and enter the command "Chkdsk /f /r" followed by enter.

You'll need to restart your computer and then it will run chkdsk. Definitely run a virus scan as well.

Hopefully those two things will sort it.

Aitch sent me out a CD (cheers!) but it was ultimate, had hoped it would work but didnt, need to run the repair console.

So if anyone else has a Vista home premium I could have or even borrow, would be much appreciated Smiling

Why not just torrent it on another PC and burn it?

If for whatever reason you can't, I'll see if I can find a decent copy to download and burn it for you. I'm guessing 32bit yeah?

My laptop keeps switching off, as if it is overheating. But it's not too hot, and it does it when it's been on for a short while.

Assuming you are using Windows…..

Check the system log, it might give you a clue as to the problem.

Run "eventvwr" from the Run command.

This is a fist step to find out the problem.

http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/

had same problem phil, they don't give you windows discs anymore and usually partition a drive for recovery but that fucked up aswell on mine. I downloaded the above burnt to disc and it sorted it for me.

Is it definitely not overheating? This used to happen to my old laptop until I took the back off and cleared out a whole load of fluff.
