It's true, the company I work for owns/sponsors (or has the rights to or something) a football stadium on Phoenix university campus, we sponsor some college football thing there, it's massive (the event, not the stadium, holds about 80,000)

I once through a coin in a small corrider just for the sake of it, it hit the wall, hit the ceiling, hit the other wall and landed back in my hand without me intending to catch it.

I've always found it quite interesting how 'socialistic' US sports are. Salary caps, strong player unions, strikes, closed league structures, the draft where the weakest teams get to pick first, and the high regard for amateur leagues. The last example might not be so peculiar though seeing as professional teams move from city to city and the university teams are the closest thing people have of an actual local team.

College football has a massive alumni following, especially at state level. For one local derby I was at (Ohio State - Toledo) they packed this place out, 103,000 capacity:

Apparently max capacity is achieved during most college football games. The Colombus Crew MLS team play at another stadium in town with a capacity of just 21,000.

To add to the college football thing, games are even shown on ESPN. They also have the playoff college games on ESPN in the UK

The same guy going to UoMichican paid nearly $900 for a pair of tickets to see his undergrad uni (USC) play UCLA a few years back.

airline and u.s themed story seeing as they are both the de rigueur at the moment on fuk.
went to miami about 10 years ago with my bidniss partner. (no homo)
on the way home we decided to upgrade to virgin upper class for the first ever time for the buzz (think it was just first back then), so we went to the desk and paid the 1800 quid iirc that it was. they took the money and handed us our tickets, and we went into the lounge got a bit squiffy and they then came to get us to board.
my mate said to me,
'im looking forward to this, are you big un'
to which i replied in my excited and a tad inebriated state but not in any way loud and thuggish
'too fucking right i am me old mucker, too fucking right i am cockerchumpy'
next thing the head attendant starts speaking to someone else and when we go to walk on the plane they tell us that there has been a terrible mistake and our tickets had been issued by mistake as they were now full and they would jsut rip them up and refund out credit card.
my mates whos a bit of a hot shot with people and situations has gone mental in a calm and collected business style manner, and asked them to take our bags off as we were refusing to fly.
massive panic ensued and they had to calm us down by offering us exit seats and free drinks in premium and a hand written note explaining what had happened.
we took the right piss on the flight after what they had done to us and we got hammered and we also got the old woman sitting next to us hammered as well.
anyway when we got back he got a solicitor to write to virgin and we got 150,000 iirc free air miles (which is a hell of a lot) as a sorry and compensation.
cool story bro?

i love shit like that.. a lot of people would have just accepted it and taken the refund.
makes me feel like a bit of a chump for taking so much shit from airlines over the years.

ba - who i'm a silver club member with overcharged me 5 times for excess baggage recently and then took months to refund. the fuckers didnt reply to any mail and apparently you cannot complain to the singapore office as the charge was made in london, so i had to write.. yes write a letter in 2010 telling them what they had done. i cant remember the last time i had to write a letter. i said i'd be moving my account to someone else and expected to be compensated. a month later they refunded me with not so much as an email notifying me.
in hindsight, i should have gone to a solicitor like you, the thought just didn't cross my mind maybe because i was travelling at the time. but i was pissed at having to chase them. its like they know i've been using them for so long that i wont go anywhere else now.
if i could be bothered i'd transfer my air miles to someone else.
any service i have, be it internet, tv, airline, i want an ambiguous relationship.. i dont want to talk to you, i just want you to charge me the correct price and take the money.. cant stand phoning call centres and what not.
i wont fly klm (after a flight problem) and qantas (after they lost my bags and made me collect them from a depo out past heathrow - couldnt believe the cheek of them losing my bags and not delivering it!!)

BA are cunts, they refused to give me any airmiles for flying TO Phoenix, but gave them to me for flying BACK, despite having a return ticket they said I couldn't prove I flew out with them. Surely they keep records of who is on a plane ?
